Here is a good tip for Get Response users

Here is a tip for Getresponse users that I only found out today (I tested it to see if it would work)

You know the situation...You want to mail and you know you will want to re-mail the unopens some hours later - maybe its a good offer (like my last WSO ) or maybe you are sending a 100 click solo from a list that gets 70 on first knockings.

Anyway...normally I have to check stats, go back in and re-mail later. Not always convenient (timezones/alcohol consumption/may be away from computer/sleeping ...or all of the above). So here's a neat trick....

Segments in GR are all dynamic. So what you do is you send your mail. Then, as soon as it is sent, you click on 'mail to group' next to unopens (this will be every recipient because it only just went out). Then you set up your 2nd mail and schedule it to whenever you want it to go (12, 18, 24 hours - whenever). When it goes...it will only go to the unopens at the time of sending.

Neat, eh?

Now, I am about to find out that I was the last one on Earth to know about this, lol

    Sounds good in theory.

    However...

The tracking pixel that registers an open at the subscriber's
end is not a reliable metric.

Many e-mail clients such as GMail, Outlook, Yahoo, etc do
NOT load the tracking pixel by default so even if the person
opens the e-mail and reads it, they don't register as an open
(unless the user pro-actively allows the image to be loaded).

Re-sending the same message to supposed no-opens is a
surefire way to piss off some of your actual regular readers.

It's better to use a more reliable metric like if they've clicked
(or not clicked) a particular link.

And Plain Text e-mails only register opens in e-mails that have
    trackable links when they're clicked.

      I TOTALLY agree with Shaun!

When I do resends to segments of my list, I only ever select
to resend to those who don't click a link in the email for that
      specific reason.

But thanks for the tip on Get Response. Will have to try it in
      my other Auto Responders.

You will still be re-sending mail to people who have opened, just not clicked. So I imagine the piss-off factor will still be there whichever way you go to an extent.

      Indeed.

To me, this is a reason for not doing it at all.

To be honest, I've never really understood why so many people think it's a good idea to re-send an email to the people who haven't apparently opened it (not that you can tell reliably, anyway).

One of the reasons is that they often don't see the email. Many people get hammered with emails. So once it is 30+ deep on delivery... they don't bother to look at it. (This is why you see the mail spammers use the date trick so much)

Not the way I do it.

I use the reliable fact that they've clicked the link to
determine that they've obviously opened and read
      the message.

Instead of sending them a repeat e-mail, I send them
a DIFFERENT message that follows on from their previous
      behavior.

So, rather than ASSuming that they've opened (or not
opened) I only send the different e-mail that matches
the next step for people that I KNOW have actually
      clicked the link.
