Is The Length Of This Product Too Long?

I'm almost finished with writing a dog training ebook that I'll be selling online here soon. It's packed full of info and I think is done very well.

The only issue I have is that it seems like it's really long. When it's finished, it will probably be anywhere between 130 to 160 pages, and I'm not sure if I should leave it like that, or take some sections out and offer them as bonuses to the main product or what.

I'm also thinking about price here. I'm not sure what I'm going to price it. The product isn't a module course, but it is somewhat of a long read. A lot of dog training books are going for between $37.77 to $49.00 on CB, but of course since it's my work I think it's worth more. But I don't know if I should start it off at a higher price than what I am seeing.

I would appreciate any input to this. Thanks in advance!

I don't think the book is too long. What it will need is a good index to direct dog owners to the specific info they want. I know when I buy such a training book I don't sit down and read it - I go straight to the index to find specific topics that suit my situation.

Present it as a comprehensive training and reference book for dog owners.

If the information is what your market wants then it's not too long. What makes it long is if it's filled with information that the market is not interested in or have no use for. Many eBook are filled with information consumers already know. However, if it's packed with information that's hard to find anywhere else then you have a winner on your hands.

Of course, how well your book is marketed, combined with your market's willingness to spend money, will determine your price. The dog/pet niche is huge, so finding buyers should not be much of a problem.

Couple of advice for you here...

First, it's always better to chunk up big products in little parts because your buyers can assimilate it and digest it better that way.

So the bonuses idea is good and will enhance your perceived value. Another thing you can do is send parts of your book as "unnanounced bonuses" to your buyers after a couple of days, as an email series.

This will drastically make a good impression and build your relationship with your list without more work (that is a winner).

As for the price, there's no good answer. As with anything, TEST TEST TEST.

    Good luck for that

I think its a good idea to take some of the sections out and offer them as bonuses. People love bonuses. They feel like they are getting more bang for their buck.

Seems like it would be a little too long especially for the dog niche...

You have a couple different options but I think the most obvious would be to cut out some of the content from your product and use it as a free giveaway to build your list.

Or you could chunk it down and sell it as different products...

Thanks for all the good ideas! I'm thinking probably the best thing to do is take out a big stand alone chunk and make it a bonus, although like I said before, a lot of these dog training books have a lot to them. I guess I'll have to test to see just what works the best on this.

If you're going to leave it as a big book, hyperlink the table of contents so your readers don't have to scroll through to find each topic heading.

Also, think about numbering the pages - I don't know how many times I've printed out an ebook for reading and dropped it on the floor and had to work out page order!

I don't think it's too long. Dog training isn't a short subject. I've bought numerous reports that were that length and longer.

A book that is 150 pages definitely does not seem too long.
