No traffic (paid or free) can guarantee you subscribers. What you need to work on is make sure that your squeeze page is attractive and enticing, you offer them a high quality freebie that solves a problem, and you make sure that you're in a profitable evergreen niche.

You need targeted traffic. Try SEO or hire someone (Fiverr, Odesk, Elance). Although it will take time, but you will get quality traffic. It's better than buying low quality traffic. Also try guest posting, you can get a lot of visitors.

I have tried fiverr before and didn't have any luck at all. If I decide to do fiverr again, what gigs should I look into?

You can order keyword research, buy quality backlinks, people also write a guest post for a few dollars and put it on your blog. Also you can buy squidoo lenses, article submission or blog comments. All can be found on Fiverr. Select a quality seller (use filter by rating)

"traffic exchanges" is the worse way to get traffic and you can mark it as junk traffic sources. You continue posting on related populated forums. If you are looking to invest some money in PPC ads, you can have a try at adwords.

Go join safeswaps and do a few swaps and buy a solo or two.'

How big is your list now ?
You can create a WSO and give it away for free that will get you a ton of subscribers but if you are just trying to sell and do not give them value then they will just unsubscribe .

I would do a small media buy if I was in your shoes either direct to site or buy sell ads dot com .

That way you can get a flood of traffic and just keep testing to see what gets the most oped ins .

But make sure you do your homework using sites like Quantcast or Compete and Alexa to confirm the demographic of the site is a match and traffic amounts.

All other things constant, I think solo ads are your best bet. You're definitely not going to have trouble in looking for lists in the IM/MMO niches.

You should be able to get a serious amount of free traffic though with those niches.

I have to agree with John because from my SEO experiments it appears that optimizing a landing page for one or more specific long tail keywords is arguably one of the best way to build targeted and sustainable traffic.

Once you have established a baseline for these long tail keywords, then move onto other keywords.

If I was in your shoes, I would consider the following SEO attack plan.
- spend $20/month buying a handful of PR 2 or 3 text links
- continue tweaking the landing page
- rinse and repeat
Wait 3 to 5 days, and you should see your landing page elevate for it's intended long tail keyword.

Thanks to Google Panda and Penguin, it is fairly easy to rank a long tail keyword within 5 days or less.

Note: This is NOT a theory but a proven and easy strategy I have implemented multiple times and it has consistently produced similar results in Google. It is not rocket science and you do NOT need to buy an ebook to implement this strategy. The hardest part of this SEO plan is the hesitation because this strategy is too simple to work. However, it works well. :-)

$100 is a one trick pong for PPC. Not enough .

What you can do is test at some low cost keywords. If conversion is high , try to form JVs with some WF ers with medium sized lists.

I have done this before and have the template letter to adapt to send them. They would definately respond.

One hundred dollars is chicken feed. If that is all you can afford ,I suggest that you offer to do backlinking for other warriors and build up your online income that way. There is the additional benefit that you will learn from the ground floor and get a peek into how the pros really do it. That stuff is invaluable and really help you alot to build your online future.

Try safe-swaps. You can generally get for $45 aaround 100 clicks generally they over deliver, but you can also then start doing swaps and build you list and let it snowball.
