How To Get Over 8 Million YouTube Views In 5 Days...

Sometimes you just have to acknowledge that some products don't need sales letters, marketing campaigns or big bold red headings - they have so much raw talent that they sell themselves. Imagine how many views she'll have in a years time:

I hate to sound so pessimistic, but something tells me that the video has more to do with Simon Cowell's business prowess than anything else. Whoever was singing is certainly extremely talented. This, along with a few other similar "surprises" on these shows, just strike me as being very well engineered. Hopefully I'm wrong

I don't watch television, but I do pay close attention to business news and internet memes. Paul Potts, another oddball dismissed by the crowd before hearing his angelic voice, won in 2007 and was signed almost immediately to Simon Cowell's record label/television production company Syco. Considering how much money Syco has been making Sony over the past 4-5 years, I'm sure that engineering these sorts of marketing maneuvers is entirely plausible.

Think about it this way; how else do you get the public to not only accept but enthusiastically support individuals without "traditional" good looks? No doubt that there is talent there, but, in my humble opinion, all of these wow moments really feel like brilliantly engineered maneuvers. As I said before though, a part of me hopes that I'm wrong.

They weed through the boring stuff until they find these kinds of gems and fill the show with that kind of stuff. Man are people ever cynical.

Mike, I sincerely hope you're right. However, I do know for a fact that the sort of celebrity engineering I'm implying might be at play here happens more frequently than most of us would like to admit. It isn't a conspiracy theory, it is a (rather effective) mode of operation within the PR, marketing, and entertainment industries.

Those who cannot see the video - please see it here :

Simon may have helped but surely - finding something extraordinary and totally unexpected is the reason for this !

A 47 year old, who says she wants to be a professional singer like alyn paige !!

The moment she started singing, everyones opinion changed in a minute !! So I don't think it was simon alone !!

    My 2 cents.

That wasn't fair. She clearly had an advantage because of her looks.

    Wonderful performance.

Funny - I happened to come across this on CNN today but didn't stop to read the story. Now, CNN's home page has two stories about the same woman. She does have an amazing voice!

I put up a blog and a new video! I thought I might get something coming my way, in terms of some adsense revenue - well I enjoyed the singing and perhaps I might get some of that traffic?

Her vibrato might need a little work but her pitch and range are excellent. Be interesting to see if she wins like Paul Potts did. Simon get can her a personal trainer, a hairstylist, a killer wardrobe and she'll be ready to go on tour. Amazing how many people have seen that youtube video already though.

The actual song wasn't bad either. There are a lot of showstoppers from Les Miserables that are often used for auditions.

This week a version of "I Dreamed A Dream" by Patty Lupone has started to sell really well. Susan Boyle is contractually unable to release a song until after the present series is finished.

I wonder if she will be signed up by SyCo (Simon Cowell's record label)?

I'm also wondering if the TV show is paying royalties because most Youtube videos with extracts from Les Miserables have been zapped.

I believe Simon Cowell has first dibs on these Martin from what I read. Every contestant agrees in some way. Same with American Idol as well. Front end and back end profits I guess!

It's got so many views not only because of the amazing talent but it went viral. The story has been picked up by many stations around the world. Sky news (major satelite news channel in the UK) did a big story on this yesterday - about Demi Moore seeing it on youtube and commenting on twitter about it.
If you hit a topical story/subject that gets picked up by the media then you can get some serious eyes on your youtube view. I posted before about a mate that runs a successful football (soccer) membership site. When there was major rumours of an ex-player being brought he went out with his video camera to the players present club and caught the clubs chairman at the lights. Asked him if the player was coming back and he shouted some expletives about not selling him (caught on camera). My mate put it on youtube. The major news channels called him to ask if they could feature it. 3 days he had over 1 million views. Oh and an extra 2,000 subscribers.

And she launched her "Product" without crashing her server.

Just think how big it would have been if she knew that trick...
