Help me analyze this, website uptime

Hi Warriors,

Recently, I changed to a new host.
I realize that my websites load quite poorly. I'm not sure if that's because I live in Asia and my sites are hosted elsewhere. But I did try to run this service, monitor.us to monitor the uptime and downtime of my site.

Below is the graph ms/time
I'm not sure how to read this graph. Can anyone explain it to me? It doesn't seem so stable at all..

Thanks!

Are you noticeably experiencing downtime? The reason I ask is because even though many people use these services, there are many factors here. The services it uses - ping, hhtps, dns resolve etc can't really be used to truly monitor uptime and those services aren't the end-all be-all for monitoring. They're actually very un-reliable. They're somewhat accurate a lot of the time, but if there are network issues between your site & that monitoring server, it's going to skew the results.

When a firewall see's specific traffic hitting a site from the same place on different ports, that server can be temporarily blocked for things like port scanning etc depending on how the firewall is configured.

Looking at that graph, the downtimes seem fairly consistent, which leads me to believe their responses are being discarded which reports it as being down.

92% uptime is awfully bad. It means that in one month your site is down two and a half days!! Most decent hosting companies offer 99.9% uptime guarantee, which means they cannot afford more downtime than fourty minutes or so in one month. Some very good companies even offer 99.99% uptime guarantee.

Do you host this site at home?

Yes, I have many times tried to enter my sites and it was down. Sometimes it takes awfully long to load. That's the reason why I wanted to monitor it. I thought maybe it's because of my location.

Is there a much more reliable way to track this then?

No in fact I am using a deal from one of the popular hosting WSO's here in WF, which even offers a 99.9% uptime guarantee...

Whoever you're using is a gnax reseller - that's where your site is & honestly, there's only a handful of hosts in that forum that have a clue. The others are just resellers playing "CEO" in their parents basement.

I would continue to use that service, create an account with uptimerobot.com & pingdom. You will then have multiple external monitors.

Yes. I would suggest you start researching a new web host.
