Do You Always Listen To What Marketers Tell You To Do?

I just got an email with the following subject:

"Steven...Please do NOT read this."

Well, being the obedient servant that I am, I didn't.

What about you? Do you listen to what other marketers tell you to do?

**HINT** There is a very subtle message in this thread. Can you guess
what it is?

I don't... only if it is something that help me increase my bottom line.

I see this like a win/win situation. He wins by getting me a customer, and I win by getting a way to make more profits.

As for your subtle message, I'm not that good in Maths... I'll let others find it.

    kidding.

Reverse psychology isn't the best marketing tactic?

This is becoming a very boring tactic, among other subject lines are:-
    Bad news
    You are probably too late
    Closing soon
    re: your download link
    Only 7 left . . . . . . . ad nauseus

By deleting all emails without a subject line that tells me what the subject is, I save a lot of time when checking my emails.

The subtle message - prat lines = prat falls?

You might not like what I say - but I believe it.

    The subtle message.

Dont try to fool your subscribers into reading your messages.
I really hate these kind of subject lines which want to trick the reader.

    My 2 cents.

      I received one today:

      CLOSED (are you too late?)

Well, if it's closed, I guess I am too late. No sense wasting my time reading the message.

Dan's content is irregularly read by handfuls of people. Join the elite few by reading his blog: dcrBlogs.com, following him on Twitter: dcrTweets.com or reading his fiction: dcrWrites.com but NOT by Clicking Here!

Dan also writes content for hire, but you can't afford him anyway.

Listen but always take each advice with a grain of salt. After reading tons of information from internet marketers you get used to it and sometimes, they all start to sound the same. Same subject lines, same themes, nothing new.

While I remember, who on Earth started that stupid subject line "He dipped his arm in petrol and then struck a match . . . "?

EDIT: I had a sort of deja vu moment and then realised
why the general theme this thread was so familar:

I will give a marketer some props if he or she sounds genuine and comes across as my friend or neighbor. I know it's a game, but if it is played well, I am impressed.

If I am on a list that offers nothing but a product everytime I get an E-Mail, then I will unsubscribe them quickly.

Just to give you an example: Anyone on Travis Sago's mailing list. His e-mails are great. I know it's all an illusion, but he would have you think you are right there in his living room in Arkansas, and that he is just a good old boy. That works for me.
Also, a good mail program will give things to its readers -- advice, links, free articles, etc. Not just sell, sell, sell.

That's my take on it. Currently I am only on about five lists. The others I just find too obnoxious.

      Going back to the OP

Some people will always have me opening their emails simply because of who they are. Other people are a bit too clever for their own good and I unsubscribe.

      But......

We are all on a journey. If I had had an auto responder list a year ago I would have copied the headlines thinking it was good IM

I remember feeling sorry for the people running a major launch that went wrong 4 times. At least that is what they told me. Being new and naive I really thought that things had gone wrong.

Having watched almost every launch go wrong now I have come to the conclusion that it is a marketing ploy. (They can't be daft can they because they are making more money than me?)

The "Bad news" type of subject line is just anther ploy. So now when I see it I think. "It's a ploy"

I love buying things online but I hate being sold to.

    Absolutely Steven!

And as a result, I am now much slimmer, richer and have a larger penis.

Marketers are my bestest friends, and I always do as they say!

    Awaiting your next instruction,

I've been on a lot of mailings lists, it's a good way to learn if you have sales resistance to the dreams they peddle. I almost always end up doing one thing they suggest. Right down at the bottom of their email, where it says click here to unsubscribe...that's the one instruction I almost always obey sooner or later.

Yes, I always do. I've been a marketer before so I know how it's hard for them to ask someone to listen and pay attention to what they are doing.

So, you want to sell me another way to easily make "X" dollars in "X" days? ROFL too funny! IM success requires hard work and lots of time. Most newbies do not survive the steep learning curve. Anyone who says otherwise is probably selling you a fantasy.

I think it is dangerous for us as marketers to assume our
subscribers hang on our words. There is only one marketer
whose email I open every time, everybody else it's a matter
of whether I'm in the mood for that individual's brand of
    shtick.

Often I am not. I'm busy doing other stuff. I think subscribers
who open even half my emails must be really engaged or just
bored - so I try to be reasonably accurate with my subject
lines so not to be perceived as just another b.s. artist.

Personally, I don't like it when people mess with my head. If the subject line tells me not to open it, I don't. Likewise, if it threatens me with something dire, like "Read this or go broke" or "Read this or die of..." I'm not gonna open it.

Of course, they don't know that. Unless lots of people don't open it, and they see the open rate is low.

      But maybe that's just me....
