A Service Idea That Could Change Your Fortunes
But due to personal considerations, I withdrew myself from the service industry in 2010 and changed my business model.
About one week ago, one of my former customers contacted me requesting for me to reverse the work that I had done to syndicate her articles.
Most people who want articles removed, press releases removed, and links removed want these things taken down because they feel that Google's Panda / Penguin killed them in Google's SERPs.
In the case of my customer, she has other more personal reasons. She said that she was trying to portray herself as an expert that she wasn't, and further, she said that some of the articles she published were stolen from others. She told me that she wanted to take down her articles, simply because she wanted to make things right again.
I advised my former customer that what she wanted done would require me to spend several hours, and I told her that I only do custom work for $95 an hour. I also told her that I could not promise a 100% cleaning, but I would try my best to wipe out as many copies of her articles as I could.
I fully expected her to tell me to go fly a kite to be honest, and that was fine, because I really didn't want to do the take-down work.
My former customer agreed to my terms, then agreed to pay 50% of the estimate in advance of me doing the work.
I was able to remove the articles from my article distribution mailing lists, and I was able to remove the article from several websites. But all told, I was only able to get removed about 90% of the footprint that I had left for her online.
Now, she is asking me if I would be willing to do the take-down of her articles from one of my former competitor's article syndication service and the places he was able to syndicate her articles.
An important point...
You gotta ask yourself why someone would be willing to pay me $95 an hour to erase her article syndication footprint online...
And the bottom line is that it isn't something that is easy to do...
- First you have to find all of the websites where the article has been placed.
- Then you have to send an email to the webmaster to ask that the article gets taken down.
- Then you have to pray that someone is answering emails and willing to take the time to do the take-down for you.
It is not a process that can be done quickly or easily.
But importantly for you, it is a service that is in high-demand... The only question is how much someone would be willing to pay you for that service...
The motivation of the marketer to have the articles taken down will definitely impact how much they are willing to pay to have the service done for them.
But the bottom line is that if you can match the right price to the right client, then getting the sale will be pretty straight forward.
One final note:
Many of us who make good money online got started in the services industry. We got started offering in-demand services for a price that we were able to sell that service.
I have always been priced at the higher end of the market, no matter what niche I worked.
I let others do the same work for pennies, and they typically got 90% of the marketplace, but I don't need to have 100% of the marketplace to earn a really good living online. I am happy to work with the 10% to make sure that I get paid well for my time.
