I'm not Catholic so I could be 100% wrong on this. But... Won't the next Pope be number 112? And doesn't that signal the end of the world or something like that?

So sell survival supplies and underground bunkers.

Yes. The next Pope will be "Peter the Roman" and strangely enough, I've heard that the most-probable candidate for the papacy is actually a guy named Peter.

        well.. that's easy.
1, set up a wordpress blog first
        2. start writing content about the next pope
        3. set up adsense ads around the content.
        4. SEO for "next pope"

I think this is probably the best thing to do but i would wait till tommorow to take my decision.

You can monetize that with Adsense and other contextual advertisement platforms online. Check the web, and you will see other ad opportunities for your website.

There are about a dozen archbishops and cardinals who are likely candidates. Write a bio on each one for the site.

In addition to the adsense, I would get an Amazon affiliate account and put up a few pages of rosary beads, votive and worship candles, crucifixes, and any other items of Catholic interest.

How about "Pope Soap on a Rope"?!

Seriously you could look at setting up a Cafepress or Zazzle store and sell Pope memorabilia. Just be careful to avoid copyright infringement, as the Vatican can get some pretty mean lawyers!

One issue I can see you having is trying to get your new site to rank for Pope-related keywords, as every news service on the planet will be covering the selection of the new pontiff. It's going to be tough to outrank some of those sites, but good luck.

      Very true..

I can't see the site (right now only a domain) being in anywhere near first 10 pages of Google especially with an info extension.
Maybe it's worth it to just flip it on Flippa instead.

Agreed, all news sites are high authority sites.
U will get burried and drown under them in the listings.
      IMO

Setup you site, use blasphemy to drive viral traffic.

Then tell people they're lucky, the next pope is going to be giving away 100 free iphones (insert cpa offer here).

Actually grabbing a likely name of the next pope could be potentially profitbale. The problem is that there are people already doing this way before the next pope is even elected. I remember back in 2005, some guy registered BenedictXVI.com on April 1st, one day before John Paul II died on April 2nd...
