Media buys. What kind of banners perform best?

I heard that the text ones perform better than the fancier ones...is this true? If thats the case could probably just make my own ones...

    Hi Bigballin,

I think that there is more to the equation than just whether its text-heavy or not. The overall look of the graphics are important and should catch the users eye immediately. Certain colors work better than others and you can even make a plain text banner look engaging. Red is a great color to grab immediate attention.

As for which ones ultimately perform better... I'm not sure how someone could make that assertion as I've seen plain text banners that look like crap and some that look great. A big part of conversion will be the language you choose to use, so I would spend some time thinking about what you want to say and how you could say it most effectively. Then it will convert.

Best of luck in all your efforts!

You should be running tracking to test the click thru rate (ctr) and conversion rate of each banner. Otherwise you are wasting your money.

Trick and plain text banners usually get the highest ctr on most sites, but there are bound to be exceptions. High ctr however may no necessarily mean more conversions.

If you are able to target specific sites or channels, ideally you want ctr/conversion info for each banner on each site/channel
