XXX site turned into a normal blog site.

I'm not sure this is the correct place to post, but if it isn't & a moderator does have a look - please feel free to move it.

Anyway, I have a very old blogging site that is doing very well in terms of revenue on a monthly basis however I stopped working on it a year ago & moved on - the reason being is I found out it was a porn site in 1999 that was the reason why my keywords would not rank high & PR remained the same.

Just wanted to ask, is there anything you can do with such a domain? Or should I just consider this as my loss for not checking data before purchasing a 2nd hand domain name I was a complete newbie I didn't even know they had such history stored zz

All suggestions welcome & feel free to flame me too I need it.

Are you against establishing it as a porn site? Perhaps you could turn it into a porn related blog, maybe even things like genital growth, tablets that work, eBooks on confidence in bed, that kind of stuff.

Plenty of options you could choose from without having to.. errhem.. record anything.

    Jamie.

Thanks for the suggestion but I rather not go into the porn market.

You could always domain SEO. I own a domain freepornaccount.com. I haven't done adult materials it but the sole purpose is to get traffic to my adult niche.

I don't think I was clear enough on my question..

Basically let's say I'm running a technology blog on a "1 word" domain name which is random and does not scream out PORN at all.

But I later realised some moron decided to use it as one in 1999.

Now, is there any thing I can do about this - to get away from the bad mark that was left in 1999 or am is this one screwed for life in terms of PR ranking & page ranks for keywords.

    Hope that's more clear, thanks.

Hey mate, such an unfortunate event should just be forgotten and keep moving forward. Anyway, to put it simply, you want to "make over" you site, isn't that right?
How about you just erase your entire database of article, image, title, and even web code, I suggest you to consult this to a web developer expert. After you do that, start by picking your own niche, have you got an idea of what will you do next after you clean up your website?
And one last thing, and the most important one, SEO, learn this as much as possible, consult to an SEO expert, how to get registered on Google page rank once again, like the old time.

If the content you're creating now isn't porn, I wouldn't worry about it and would just keep working on the site. Google indexes new content and you'll rank for your new keywords. Doesn't matter as much what is was in 1999.

Google wont be punishing you now for what was going on in 1999 they will realise that it is in new hands and the content is different, if you are not ranking take a look at your SEO strategy.

What does your link profile look like? The only thing that could be hurting you are links left over from 1999.

You can 301 redirect to a new domain but eventually the bad link penalty will follow.

Your best bet is to get more "good links" from good neighbors to drown out the bad links from 1999.

Even reach out to the site owners and ask them to remove the links. Just can't believe those links are still going to be valid.

If your link profile is clean - what happened in 1999 doesn't matter.

What would be the best tool to check for bad links? thanks for your input!

@sbucciarel / @karlmay1980 - thanks, just the type of answer I needed - this is exactly what I was thinking but the point is my website was restricted at certain universities and places that have the adult configuration done so I was losing out on potential traffic also some work places it wouldn't work.

It doesn't make much around £150 per month with 3,000+ unique visitors daily I'm ranking under 100K on alexa which isn't so bad for a site that I haven't touched in 14 months.

Was just thinking to revive it, by outsourcing so it won't interfere with current ventures.

I wouldn't worry much about where you might be blocked or the traffic you don't get. You are getting some great traffic and fair revenue. You can probably improve both and this site would sell for a lot of money on Flippa. It's worth developing.

Good piece of advice here, this is exactly what I had in mind - turn it into a revenue machine & sell it on flippa. Thanks buddy!

If it's got ALOT of PORN related traffic coming in, just be smart and redirect it to a Porn related CPA offer.

    Hi everyone,

Always it is your choice what you will do,

but you can put good things not telated with porn on your
domain and it may be helpful to others!

But this is only your choice and you must chose what your heart is telling you!

    All the best.

To the guys above... it does not receive "porn traffic" it receives the keyword traffic that I originally planned out - so there is no need to divert such traffic.

I think I've generally understood what I need to do after posting this, as some people said above what happened in 1999 should be long gone it has all non-porn-related unique content on their since 2 years now so Google should have picked up a brand new site.

Not my main project atm so I'll outsource with the money it making in hope to see more improvements in revenue, thanks again everyone.
