Best Way to Email Established Customers

Hello,

I have an eCommerce site and sell physical products. I currently have a customer list of about 2,500. A small percentage have opted to receive emails, but I have not done any email marketing. I would like to start sending out periodic specials and coupons, but I would like to first contact the entire database to see if I can get more to opt in. I don't want to get in trouble for sending emails to my customers that haven't opted in. Any advice?

Thanks,
David

As far as I know, you have the legal right to follow up with your customers and anyone who has done business with you in the past. I think you simply need to give them the option to opt-out of future communications, and make sure it's easy to find and one click to unsubscribe.

I would start out the email by identifying yourself so they know who is sending it and then explaining why they are being contacted (they purchased from you before).

Send out 1-2 emails asking them to opt in for discounts etc. They have purchased something from you in the past so it's not spamming.

Yes, I agree with other posts that it won't be spamming as they are past customers.

Use a good autoresponder service like Aweber which always puts an 'unsubscribe' link at the bottom of all emails too.
