Amazon affiliate -- Adsense won't accept my site

Hi Folks,

I'm trying to get a website up and running. The target market is people who are 50+. Basically it offers some original content and links to a book on Amazon with more info. I applied for adsense and got turned down. They said my site had copyright material on it.

I suppose in a way it does. I usually give my subscribers a notice of when a book that they might be interested in is free. I download the book, review it, and then typically I will copy the image out of the Kindle book and make it look a little nicer. Of course I hope that people who come along after it isn't free, will click on the link and buy it for the $2-$3... or whatever....

I'd like to show you an example post, it that's OK here:
Over Fifty at Risk for Shingles | 50alone.com

From this post, you will see in one paragraph I quote the author, which was in the description on the Amazon page. It says:

Ryan Notch has written a guide, Shingles -- A Quick Guide to Symptoms, Treatment and Pain Relief. He says, "Doctors now estimate that 50% of us who live to the age of 85 will catch it at some point. What was once only a disease for the elderly is now attacking all portions of the population. Especially those whose immune systems are compromised by stress or age. This book is the simplest and most comprehensive guide to recognizing the signs of shingles, and ways to deal with both the short term and long term pain. Presented in terms direct enough for the common reader, but smart enough to get you the information you need to beat this disease for good."

You note, I've given the author credit for what he says.

So my site is sitting at a PR of 1, and Adsense won't accept me into their program because of copyright infringement --and I'm guessing the same issue will prevent my site from getting a better PR in the next Goggle update.

So what do I do? Stop making the book images look better? Stop quoting the author? Or should I just give up ~~~~~.

If you can offer some suggestion and help, I would sure appreciate it.

Thanks,
Steve MacLellan

hey steve, read adsense TOS please. you can't have copyrighted material on your site (unless you have green light from source). but you can use amazon code, just take one with image, paste it and you are ok.

I googled their TOS, but I think the one I was viewing was for California.

I appreciate your reply but I don't understand all this stuff. It would seem to me that if I am an Amazon affiliate it would be OK to quote the author of the book and use the images provided.

      I admit to being a little (a lot) dense -- what's wrong?

      Thanks,
      Steve

        This is link https://www.google.com/adsense/policies

You can place Amazon widgets on your page only (including links). But you can't use images and text which isn't your (even when it comes from Amazon!). Unless you have permission from author.

Thanks for your reply again. You are a great help in helping me get to the bottom of this.

So I were to email the author of the book, using the above page as an example (and I'd be happy to send the author a eBook image that I created from their book) , and I got the authors permission to quote them in the article I wrote on my blog.... How would Google know I got their permission so that they would accept me into the Adsense program? Is there some link attributes I need to code into the image url or the ":buy now" link?

I certainly appreciate your time, or anyone else helping with this problem. Sorry I'm such a newbie when it comes to this affiliate stuff.

          Regards,
          Steve

Yes you should contact adsense team and let them know about this. On the other hand, you could use appropriate Amazon widget. You know, adsense team act right away, they don't ask questions. So is better to ask about everything (and to take their policies very seriously...). You should also give a credit below the images.
