Default Niche Marketers - Are your most profitable niches about things you like?

I've got quite a few niche sites. Some i started because they are both profitable and i'm actually interested in them, some i started because they appeared to be profitable.

I've found the niches that im interested in, are doing better, and the others not so much, though the same work more or less goes into both.

Do you have the same issue (if you have multiple niches) or do you disgregard the subject of the niche and just focus on the money

I have now ditched the sites that are supposed to moneys makers. I just work in niches that I am interested in and part of. And guess what? They make money.

There could be a number of reasons for this but authenticity and sincerity immediately come to mind. People can see through bull.

The Memoirs Of Edward Rochester - Just imagine if Jane Eyre had been written by Mr Rochester.
My first full length novel now on Kindle and In Print on Createspace. That's what I call a niche!

To add to what Ken wrote, I also think that one may be more inclined to work more often on a project related to something they are passionate about than one that focuses on what may be somewhat foreign material.

My interest lies with Internet marketing itself. Therefore the niche of the site is not what needs to interest me, but instead the process.

Hi!

I just posted a "sort of similar" question (well, maybe only generally similar). I would be interested, if you all don't mind, if you could give examples of what niches you liked, what you didn't enjoy, and how you tweaked the enjoyable ones so that they were more profitable. I hope that's not asking too much, but as a newbie, I'm always interested in how people are turning their enjoyable topics into profits.

Thanks!

Most of my niches are things I'm interested in - I'd hate to spend too much time doing anything I didn't enjoy.

However, my most profitable niche is of no interest to me personally at all. and i have no intention of 'getting interested' in it either. But there's money there and I've created the best product in the market for that niche so it's been something I've continued because it makes money but ultimately will sell the company and get out of that niche - life's too short.

I go with the niches that have the least competition and the most potential - it's great if I like the niche, but not essential.

My most profitable niche is something that I was not terribly interested in at the time and knew very little about. But, it converts like crazy and like cosmokid said "you learn to like any niche that makes you serious money".

With that being said, it's not a niche that I hate or dread working in, it's just not something that anyone in there right mind would consider a hobby.

I guess, in a way, this makes sense: especially if, by the above, you mean that your customers consider it a hobby as well. People are usually more passionate about their hobbies than they are about "serious stuff".

Hmmmm.... That gets me thinking. Uh oh, that could be dangerous!

If i find a profitable niche, I will go for it.
You can always learn more about it once you start working on it. Profitable niches are hard to find these days and when I find one, I always go for it even if I don't like it that much.

Put me in the "niches I don't particularly like" category, too. My best money maker niche site is about something I don't think I could possibly care less about personally. But I have a huge interest in it from a business standpoint. It's my bread-and-butter site, so I better dang well "like" it, right?

For me, when it comes to writing articles, it doesn't really matter much if I like the subject. If I know something about the subject that does make the writing process a little faster but I don't spend all day writing one article so it doesn't matter if it's a subject I like.

In fact, many times I like writing articles about subjects other than the ones I truly am an expert in because it gets boring talking about the same stuff all the time. It's fun to dive into a new subject sometimes even if it's not a subject that gets you all excited just thinking about it.

Note: I'm not into PPC at all so I answered the question from an article marketers / SEM point of view. Hence the talk about writing.

Speak for yourself.

Whenever I'm making money in any niche I'm not passionate about, I'm already looking for how to flip or sell it so that I can spend time on things I do care about.

Life's too short to waste your time getting interested in stuff just for the money. You do that and you end up chasing money forever and miss out on your life.

There are way too many other factors that determine whether a niche is profitable that it is impossible to narrow it down to whether it is a niche you like or not.

For example:

Internet Marketer #1 may like a particular niche and therefore have an in-depth knowledge about it and his audience, and know exactly how to profit best from both.

Internet Marketer #2 may like the same niche, but approaches it thinking like a customer and only what he is interested in. He may miss out on offering complimentary products, information, or other particulars that Internet Marketer #1 is selling to them.

Likewise, two different internet marketers who are not interested in a particular niche might have similar results.

Personally, I've had successes and failures in niches that I both like and don't like. For me it is more about the creation of the project/product and solving the puzzle of getting traffic to the site so that they can then take the action that I would like them to take.

From my experience it is not the niche you are passionate about... it is the one that lots of other people are passionate about!

For example golf, people who play golf are passionate, they spend huge sums of money on their clubs and accessories, money that you could be taking a cut of by recommending products and services to them.

OR a desperate niche where people desperately want a solution.

'Isn't that taking advantage of them though?' is a question that springs to mind. Not at all - if they are desperate for a solution and you do provide that solution, then you are giving them what they need and they will be extremely grateful for it.

I get excited about niches where people use credit cards or click on my ads. For me it doesn't matter what I like, since the actions of others effects your bank account. Don't get attached to a niche just because you are passionate about it. Unless passion pays the bills for you.
