Branding an empire. What should work better?

Hey warriors, I was wondering how to properly brand a network of sites that are covering different niches.

What is better?

1. Choose brand name (something short, catchy, 7 letters max) and add niche related words to it. ex: Google Marketing, Google Wellness, Google Media etc.

2. Choose brand name (same as above) but use the same design style and branding across all niches. For the niches use related words in that specific area.
Best example that comes to my mind using this branding method is Envato.
Envato is the brand, with a leaf as a logo, but they have ThemeForest for themes, VideoHive for video, AudioJungle for audio etc. All inspired from nature.

3. Use different names for every niche without any connection to each other
( but that would ruin the empire branding effect )

So how would you name your business empire?

I like the Envato work space. They allow me to share credits across many companies. Not sure if that would work for you. What they really need is a common icon. Yeah, one that would tie together all said companies. Sadly, for Envato this is not our case.
