Most Controversial/Passionate Niches?

Hey warriors,

I'm curious, what are some of the most controversial/passionate niches you have found online?

Outside of porn that is.

My list so far off the top of my head is:
  • fitness (everyone has a view on it, and people are insanely passionate about it)
  • gun rights
  • dogs (with pit bulls I think being the more controversial side of the niche)
  • make money niches (similar to fitness in a sense)

Look forward to seeing what you guys add to the list :-)

Of the ones you've mentioned, above, I would guess "gun rights" - though obviously a very small niche, by comparison with the other, huge markets you've mentioned - must be far more controversial/passionate than the others?

Some small sub-niches within healthcare can be pretty passionate/controversial, too. There are some in which there's so much hysteria - all over the media - from small, vociferous, grotesquely misguided and ill-informed minorities that huge numbers of more sensible, less prejudiced people are seriously interested in objective, factual information and can have difficulty finding it. Unsurprisingly, these can be very good niches: the prejudiced and undereducated minority subgroups typically generate the heat (publicity, concerns and interest), making it easy for marketers to attract the light (already targeted traffic, without really needing SEO.)

When you say controversial and passionate, politics and religion spring to mind, people are very passionate about these subjects and like to get their point across. Health care would be another in my eyes like Alexa said, some of the medical advice online holds no merit and not an ounce of scientific proof. People are passionate about pointing them out and proving to them that they are talking a load of crap . I suppose Law could also be controversial to.

By applying a bit of a twist to an appropriately suseptible audience, any topic can be made controversial. Historically, inciting controversy for marketing purposes has become a highly developed art form with scientifically predictable results, particularly in religion, politics, and passionately equipotent canons in history, the arts, science, etc.

Here is a niche that fits your description: Finance.

The general topic of finance is mostly dry and boring and not really passionate. But if you go into sub-niches for "Investing like Warren Buffet" or "Buy and Hold" it starts getting very passionate and very controversial.

And the best part: there is lot of money in that niche

I agree with Myob any niche can be seen as controversial, especially when you dig down to sub-niches

    here are some other niches

    self-help
there are a lot of wackos in this niche teach things that have no validity and it is another niche where people are looking for a magic bullet

    psychology
when you start digging into this there is lot of controversy over whether or not ADHD is real, or if depression "disease" and on and on and on

actually another I just thought of

    dating advice for men
I could see this being controversial depending on what the men are taught, whether to go on traditional "dates" or to just try and get a woman into bed.

But like MYOB said any niche can be controversial

    Religion.

They say Christianity and Islam are the 2 major religions in the world. Everybody could use this type of advice and knowledge, but nobody wants to pay for it.

It's controversial in terms of literal interpretation vs common sense logic.... and passionate due to each side's perspective devout followers.
