Why should we focus on only one project at a time?

I often read that newbies who want to succeed in Internet Marketing should focus on only one method and stick to it until you see results.

What is wrong with picking up 2-3 or even more different methods to make money online at the same time?

Lets say I want my first project to be an adsense based website. After getting domain/hosting and posting couple articles the website will only require few hours a week to maintain. Adding 2-3 new articles each week shouldn't take much time. I am then left with a lot of free time, so what is wrong with starting multiple projects? What am I missing here?

There's nothing wrong with it.. some can handle it, and some can't. We aren't all the same, and it all comes down to what you are comfortable with.

I have multiple projects on the go, all of the time, and if you think about it, everybody's life is kinda like that anyway. So why should IM be any different?

One thing I will say though.. if you have three different projects on the go at once, your results are going to come slower than if you poured all of that energy into just one. Also, if you are working for clients and over-commit yourself, it is going to reflect poorly on you.

Before you do ANYTHING else in your day - do at least ONE thing that brings money into your business.

2 to 3 would be ideal if you can manage your time well. In my case, I focus only on 2 projects and they are getting bigger and bigger since I started 4 and 6 years ago...

    You're missing a LOT.

Infact, this is why most people fail online, because they think in order to make money, all they need to do is organize hosting and slap up a website.

    Then guess what happens?

Have a read in the forum here to find out...

    How do I get traffic?
    Why isnt this working?
    Should I build a list?
My account got closed, now what?

...and so on and so on.

Hosting and a website accounts for about 5% of everything that's involved.

My mentor was asked this very question during a podcast interview and his response was awesome....he said "Would you try and read 15 books at once?"

You don't learn anything when you try and do everything.

    A very good post!

I think that most people want the Fastlane to wealth and think that online businesses and IM is the golden ticket to quick money. There is no Fastlane and it all involves time and effort.

I believe that if you're good with time management and are very disciplined then you can do multiple projects at once. I do still think though that most newbies would be better advised focusing on one method and getting that method to produce results and work before moving onto something else.

You have to do what you can handle. If you can only handle one thing at a time then that is all you should be taking on. Like stated above, some are better with handling more than others.

  • Well, you CAN start many projects at a time. But take it like this:

Let’s use New Year’s resolutions as an example.

There are some people who make MANY resolutions, and their list looks something like this:

    1) By November 2013 i will have made $500,000 in net profits. 2) I will have lost 10 kilos and added 5 kilos of muscle to my body. 3) I will have purchased a new Porche. 4) I will have stopped smoking cigarettes. 5) I will have taken 3 vacations in Greece, Hawaii & Amsterdam. 6) I will have a better relationship with my husband/wife. 7)etc, etc...

And there are other people that make this type of list:

By November 2013, I will have:
    1. created a "web design business" that generates $10,000 in sales per month. 2. I will have stopped smoking cigarettes.

And the second type of list, has 2 items .VS. 7 or more items. But it does not mean that the person, who wrote the second list, will not attempt to achieve more things till the due date.

It just means that the person from list 2, gives greater priority and MEANING into the two things that individual selected. So therefore, the list 2 person is more likely to achieve 2 things they give priority to and have a lot of meaning into, .VS. The person from list 1 who lists a million things, and then does a half-job on all of them.

So it’s not about doing just 1 or doing many marketing strategies for your business. It is about selecting one at a time, making sure you fully understand it, master it, execute it well, and do it all in a way which leads to you becoming one of the top 2% of people that are the best at executing that one marketing strategy.

Truth be told, making a few grand here and there means sh*t. and Whoever just puts out any content, and uses any strategy they find to make a few quick $$$ here and there, won’t end up going very far.

Any technique will get you results, if you master it. So don't rush... there is no point. Take your time while taking it one step at a time. That is the way I do it at least

  • It's best to do one thing great, than 3 things "ok". My advise? focus on one worthy project at a time.

  • The idea here is not to spread yourself too thin

If you're properly giving one method a go, you shouldn't have any free time, period.

That could be research, writing, traffic building, interacting and learning. If you've got free time (atleast in the beginning), you're not doing it right or enough.

If the reason for this is other commitments that's fine, but if you're doing the minimal and then sitting around for hours wondering why you aren't succeeding, then you're not putting enough effort into it.
