Hi guys

I have an accountancy firm in the UK and am wanting to help optimise it.

I have the slideshare information videos from Mike and was wondering how I should word it for accountant wakefield.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Hey pdh666, I do local marketing for a few companies. I got started in IM building a site for my offline professional biz (sold the biz in 2011).

Initially, I built up a 200+ page website for my biz (I blogged a lot). I attracted tons of new clients, but I found only a few of those web pages actually converted visitors to clients. The key is to target and rank for the right keywords.

The following are good keywords in the local space for a home page:

    Accountant Town
    Town Accountant
    Hire
    Find
Free consultation (if you offer this)
    Best

If you offer specific accounting services, you might include those such as "income tax" or whatever your primary accounting services are.

Be sure to include synonyms to your keywords (search, locate, good, top, firm, etc.).

Your home page should be well-written, include your keywords conservatively (1 to 2%), include an outbound link to an authority site and include a YouTube video (yours preferably).

Don't forget about conversion ... include a toll free tel. # in the header and a contact form at the top right.

Include 3 to 5 images on the page as well that you link to from your home page content. You could go after longer tail keywords on the additional pages. Don't go for the same keywords on every page.

Add 4 to 6 well-written pages that provide great info about what you do and your services.

Include a sitemap, contact page, privacy page and terms and conditions page.

I also like adding a Google map on the home page with your business' address and local tel. number.

My initial mistake was ranking for all kinds of keywords that weren't buying keywords. Now I simplify the process and go for hiring keywords only.

Setting up a Google Places page helps as well (I don't do this for my clients because they have their own GP page ... I receive commissions promoting my local clients so I prefer traffic to the sites I create for my clients).

I'm also experimenting with building a resource website for the industry on which I'll heavily promote my paying clients. The resource site is targeted to the local area as well. I just launched and am waiting for results to materialize.

    Off-site SEO:

Be slow and steady with backlinks. Easy on keyword anchor text ... really mix up the anchor text (naked, generic and some keyword backlinks). Try to get quality backlinks only from related sites ... if you do this, you won't need many backlinks at all. Once you rank, you'll be too busy to do this stuff ... that's what happened to me so I sold and went into IM instead.

    Is SEO worth it?

I know many people say SEO is not good to rely on, and that's true, but for local businesses, a top ranking for a great keyword can drive you tons of new business. I had new clients come in often saying "you guys must be the best because you were number 1 in Google". Top rankings = credibility. I didn't even have to sell our services ... people were intent on hiring us.

Local SEO is not that hard unless you're in London or New York or other huge cities. Therefore, if your site goes down in Google, build another on a new hosting service with new domain and new content. Doesn't take long.

    Be selective

Another mistake I made was trying to target every possible keyword creating a lot of too similar content on different pages. Now I go for the best keywords and leave it at that.

For sharing the information it would be very fine to create a blog series and post genuine and good content regularly , so that people will take interest in that.
