Reddit and Wordpress are accepting BitCoin as method of payments.

Reddit will accept bitcoin payment for premium service | PCWorld

Pay Another Way:*Bitcoin -- Blog -- WordPress.com

Does this make BitCoin more mainstream and trustworthy as a way to accept payments?

Maybe for Reddit and Wordpress but not for me. If I can't pay a bill or buy groceries with it, I'm not interested in it.

Why are people who have bit coins so interested in getting others into bit coin?

Is it a weird religious cult?

Or is that they stand to gain if they can attract more people into bit coin, because of floating value, but limited supply?

Anyway, to answer the question, no.

Interestingly reedit afaik only accepts bit coin to buy reedit gold, which afaik is mainly like getting gold stars from your peers (instead of teacher).

I believe if you want to buy advertising on reddit, which is what they are really selling, you have to pay in real money, not bit coin (nor reddit gold). Correct me if I am wrong...

I think you are correct regarding Reddit. Wordpress has the BitCoin payment option along side credit card payments and PayPal.

I have never used BitCoin myself but it seems to be starting to show up around the internet more often as a way to pay.

Now that Wordpress (with a global Alexa ranking of 22) is using BitCoin, I think others will start to take a look at it as a method of payment.

    Time will tell I suppose.

Bitcoin is interesting, but I am not sure if it will have long-term staying power. I think that something like it might take its place, but I sort of doubt Bitcoin is going to be around for the long-haul in another form other than a historical footnote.

So, I am not sure how that make any difference.

Just because Reddit is going to use BitCoin, doesn't add any trust level to the service. The company has over 1000 question mark over it.

Let us have a small look on some questionable services even though they r being tightly close to big companies, shall we ?

AlertPay : The first real alternative to PayPal was accepted by major companies, and it sucked.

BillMeLater : a service being promoted by PayPal, is known with a terrible reputation ( a simple look up on google will tell you how reliable is their service ).

Apple finance Service , Best Buy Credit Card ( these services is not run by these companies ) and simple googling will give the idea.

People are not questioning who is using the service, but how the service work, and from where i am standing, it is very questionable and lack the basic behind how real money works.

One point to the whole Bitcoin debate is that so-called "real money" does not work the way most people think it works, especially with too-big-to-fail banks around these days.

What exactly is "full faith and credit" of the government, anyway? Ask someone in Cyprus who had euros in a bank account back in March of this year what that means and see what they tell you.

The point for the people who are pushing Bitcoin is that, the more it is used the more people become familiar with it, the more it grows because frequent usage adjusts average comfort level. Paypal wasn't always the gold standard in payment systems that most people accept it to be today, and some people still don't think they are...visit PaypalSucks.com if you doubt what I am saying.

Once upon a time money was backed by something tangible that you could actually go to the issuer and trade out the paper for...the reason why they call it the British pound is because at one point it was worth one pound sterling...sterling silver, and you could turn it in and collect the silver that backed it. Not so true anymore. The US Dollar was also once like that, where you could turn it in for an ounce of gold or silver, depending on the note you had.

      Yes, things have changed.

But in the long run, what is the difference between Bitcoin and your local currency, other than the amount of people who accept it? And the acceptance is only an agreement to use it instead of trading chickens for goats.

I guess what I am saying is, if you COULD use it to buy groceries, would you? Because there are some people who ARE able to buy a meal with it in Cyprus...
