What do you do with your lists -> Build relationship or sales funnel instantly?

I have a question please from my friend, he asked me if he should first build relationships, by sending out free things to the list. Or is it better to just create the sales funnel and stick in the automated emails the offers provide in the affiliate tools etc...

I said IMO it would be better to just have the sales funnel, being that the person subscribing is going to be targeted and in need of what he has, however I'm no expert and don't even have nor intend to build the lists anytime soon.

If someone could let me know that would be great, I will be able to then let him know and help him out.

Thanks for reading

    It's not a case of either/or...

    Do both.

So make offers AND build the relationship with your
    subscribers too.

People buy when they're ready to buy, not just when
    you're ready to sell.

Therefore, present offers throughout your process and
then people will have the opportunity to buy if and when
    they are ready.

        Hi Real Fast Views,

Shaun is quite right: you need a mix of good free stuff and then an occasional promotion.

Where could he get good free related stuff, to giveaway to his list if needed.
I'm guessing your friend knows a bit about the niche he is in and the products he wants to promote. So it should be a simple matter to accumulate a series of 'Tips' emails that can be sent out on a regular basis. Think of these as a showcase for your friend's expertise. The idea is that your list should think. "Boy, this guy really knows his stuff".

But you need to be careful that these tips, taken together, don't completely solve the problem this niche has - the idea is to sharpen the appetite ... not cure the hunger.

And that will start to build a relationship of trust. Because trust is the magic ingredient that is vital for any sale to take place.

Provided these are giving good information, the list will be eager to open each email (a very important part of email marketing).

Then they will react favorably to an occasional promotional email.

        Warmest regards,

        Paul

If you want to stack the copywriting deck in your favor with tricks and hacks producing winners like: "$20K in three days" "650 sold" "30% conversion", then you might like to know I'm retiring and will spill the beans to two people. More info here.

I find the best place to get the free stuff is from my
own brain via experience and learning.

It's not a case of just giving away 'good related free
        stuff' to the list.

(Otherwise, you may just build a list of subscribers who
expect good stuff for free all the time and don't want to
        buy your paid offers).

It's about giving away your information very strategically
with the aim of building the relationship AND increasing
the chances that they'll buy your paid offers.

Just like Shaun says, build relationships AND sell.

The problem with offering too many free things when you begin a relationship is that you condition your list to be freebie seekers. Also, most of your list probably has gigs upon gigs of free ebooks they'll probably never read and you need to give them their fix.

If a guy is coming to buy a pizza for dinner, he'll get mad if you only give him free samples when he wants his pizza and is willing to pay for it.

If your friend is going to offer free stuff, then make sure it compliments the offer.

I explained this to my friend, he said he now has the first email that goes out, with useful information and gives them a free gift. He did ask however, roughly how many emails should he do this before getting to the meat with the offers.

Lastly he asked if it's a good idea to use automated emails, that offers provide in their affiliated tools. Currently he has been promoting the GSniper2 offer and has added the sales funnel emails.

Is this the best thing to do, or better to write your own emails?

      Thanks for any advice etc...

Why separate these two good things, lets combine it altogether. You need to have relation with your customer because they are valuable assets for long term investment. You also need to make sales funnel, the simplest one is like this:
generate traffic > leads (offer) > prospect (good product) > customer.
