Is there somewhere online for people to offer their skills in exchange for exposure?

Hey guys,

I've been wondering if there's a place online where people can contribute their skills to other people's projects or group projects in exchange for exposure, feedback, and possibly even future royalties.

Aside from building a name for your creativity, it seems like that would be helpful for building a portfolio and making connections as well. Or even just as a fun way to participate in a project with others.

For the introverts out there (guilty as charged), it would be a good way to hone teamwork skills without feeling burned out.

I'm interested in composing music for visual mediums (film, games, sound branding, etc.) and collaborating with others. A hub like that could pair a person like me up with a short film creator with no music budget (who would prefer an event-based soundtrack over using Garageband sound loops). It could also pair up voice actors with Flash animators, aspiring web designers with rising SEO marketers, etc.

Please tell me that someone has created the love child of "E-lance," "Kickstarter," "LinkedIn" and "match.com."

Thanks for any input!

One of the BEST ways to get recognition for your work is to create something like a portfolio for your music. Compose music on your own 5-10 times and have a professional webpage that advertises YOU!

I would then honestly go to YouTube and connect with aspiring film makers. There are TONS of people who attempt sketch comedy or create their own short sitcoms. Just show your work on YouTube and connect with others who consistently make films. If all you're looking for is exposure and not money, then people will be MORE THAN HAPPY to work with you.

Then, just create a Facebook, Google+, Twitter, and LinkedIn and just promote yourself. Show off the work you do and try to look for people who create films.

I do not know of an actual hub that connects those two but you can definitely use my tips.

I haven't heard of a website that fits those exact needs, but it sounds like an interesting website concept.

One of the most effective ways of finding people and projects to collaborate on are forums. There are many small niche forums, where people are working on indie films and games. This isn't a "sleek" solution, like the website idea you mentioned, but I think the interaction and relationships made on forums can work much better in the long-term.

You can use the projects your work on build your portfolio on your own personal website, as well as places like LinkedIn.

Have you looked at crowdsopurcing sites?

    www.soundcloud.com
Is a collaborative music community that facilitates sharing and contributing to music projects between users. I'm sure you could find people into video there too.

MusikPitch: Custom Music Composed for Film, Jingles, Videos and More
This crowdsource site helps connect music makers with other artists who need music for film, video, commecials, etc.

Crowdsourcing and Crowdfunding - The Industry Website
You could search crowdsurfing, org for music/video related crowdsource projects.

Edit, When I first read your post title, I was going to suggest a web-cam site... LOL

Thanks for all the tips, guys. I learned a lot from your responses.

I didn't even know the site MusikPitch existed, thanks for that too, onSubie.

I guess I need to stop being lazy and actively go find some collaborators to work with lol. Social networking makes that pretty manageable though.

Keep us updated on the progress of your scripts, professorrosado. They sound extremely useful for a ton of different applications.
