YouTube - To Link to Google + or NOT?

Hi folks,

I am in the process of branding and setting up my social networks.
What are you thoughts on linking my YouTube account to my Google + account?

It's tricky in a way...
Google + is Nicole Steinberger.
YouTube (just created first vid) is drnickisteinberger

Trying to brand both my websites: Mountain River Stream | Fabulous Outdoor Gear Reviews & Intimate Adventures [w/ Dr. Nicki] and Eating For Energy as well as my name but prefer "dr. nicki"

It's hard to get them all the same.

Anyhow, your knowledge and experience is appreciated.
Dr. Nicki

Google owns YouTube so it can only be a good thing linking both networks.

Google and Youtube accounts are automatically linked since Google's acquisition of Youtube back in 2009. However, if you want to link your Youtube to a different Google account, you just have to go to the Youtube options page and choose unlink, it will then require you to enter another Google account ID to link.

if you link the two, people from one network will be able to find you on another.

BUT most of your target market doesn't use both. So you only have the disadvantages:

DIS #1: If someone leaves a negative comment about you (the only kind that ever happens online) on one of the networks, the people in the other network will see it too.

DIS #2: The audience is different in each. You won't be able to tailor your brand specifically to each target.

DIS #3: You lose Google search adantages

DIS #4: If you sell your business or it gets acquired or investors come to you, you are the brand, you'll be stuck to your silo or you won't be able to sell it.

That was something I was facing last night.

At the end of the day I did not link to Google+ because I looked at it as a way to brand not just myself but what I do.

I wanted to build it in a way that I can make a unique name that attracts and people will remember and I wanted to add "TV" to the end of my username.

I chose not to link it to my G+ profile.

At the end of the day it's just a backlink from YouTube.

Link em. Gives the channel more authority. The more accounts you link to it the better.
