Hi All, I just added a WordPress blog to a domain name. But, I forgot I already had a website loaded on that domain. How do I remove the old site so that only the blog is present? My host is with Hostgator and my FTP is Filezilla. I guess I need help removing the files from Filezilla. Thanks for your help! |

It should be located in your Public_HTML folder. Look for an Index.html file and delete it. That should do the trick... |

Hi Christie, If your want the entire site (old version) removed, then you will need to access your "public_html" directory and delete the associated folders and files from that directory. Just make sure that you reference the wordpress install package so that you do not delete required core files for wordpress to run. Deleting the "index.htm, or index.html" file will prohibit the old site from being referenced as the active index file and the primary entry to your domain, but the remnant files of the old site will remain on your server. You can also look for the file and rename it, say, index2.htm. This will accomplish the same thing without deleting any files and may be easier to "fix" should anything go wrong. 3rd option would be to uninstall wordpress, then remove the old site files and reinstall wordpress. This is probably the easiest solution, that is of course considering you haven't put much effort into configuring the new wordpress install yet. Feel free to contact me if you need more help. ~Richard PS: HostGator's support team is awesome so don't hesitate to go directly to them for help with this. I'm hosted with them as well. Via phone or chat, they are very good at what they do. |

Aaron has the idea but rather than delete it I would rename it to indexold so that it is a backup just in case. Now if you do what Richard said make sure you create a good 404 page in your wordpress so when people come looking for those files you can capture them still. Quentin |

You can remove WP from Cpanel IF you used it to install it. If not, you can just go in via FTP and delete everything in public_html BUT don't delete cgi-bin and then delete the WP databases via CPanel. |

Look for a file named something like index.html or default.html, if you rename that file to something like index_old.html that should do the trick

If you used Fantastico, simply use the uninstaller. If you used another one-click installer, there should be an option to uninstall. If you uploaded the files via FTP, you should simply remove them and viola! All done.
