Building Trust Through Autoresponders?

Hey guys,

I feel like I'm at the final 'hurdle' to overcome.

First, I couldn't get traffic. Now I'm getting 300-500/day

Then, nobody was opting in. Now I'm getting at least 5/day, sometimes up to 25/day.

Now, I need to monetize.

I've made a few sales from Google traffic to my website, and having an affiliate link at the end of my article. I know this isn't the best way to monetize though.

I've crafted an autoresponder, so far it's like this:

Email 1 (day 1) - one of my best tips no pitch, links, anything
Email 2 (day 3) - same
Email 3 (day 5) - same
Email 4 (day 8) - 6 of my favorite recipes, with a 'soft sell' link to where they can get 200 more recipes
Email 5 (day 10) - interview with author of the recipe book, and a medium sell
Email 6 (day 12) - hard sell, introduce scarcity/price increase, also thinking of adding a bonus.

Then the cycle will basically repeat. I'll go back into giving great free content, then I'll periodically have small little mini affiliate promotions.

Do I have the right idea here?

I think maybe I need to just get a few sales from my autoresponder sequence to make all of this seem 'real' . It's kind of hard to believe that somebody is out there reading my emails, valuing what I have to say, and purchasing things based off my recommendation.

That's certainly better than a lot of sequences I have seen!
You're going to get a lot of advice and opinions here, so remember to
test everything with a few hundred visitors before you take anyone's
    word for it.

I have a few questions before I pipe in with my own experiences:

    1. Are people opening your emails?
    2. Are they responding or asking your questions?
    3. Are you asking them questions at the end of your emails?
    (to get them to respond)

      1. Yes, they are opening the emails (10-20% open rates)
2/3. I don't really ask questions at the end of the email, but a couple of people have responded/left questions on my blog.

I would focus on writing high quality content to your list, and only recommending products to your list that you personally believe in.

    You're on the right track.

If you want to learn about how to build a
relationship with your list, there are several
good products on this forum teaching you
    about it.

I recommend most Jason Fladeliens (I may
have spelled his name wrong) WSO talking
about how to build a relationship with your
list that respond to your emails, offers and
    recommendations.

I think I payed $17 for it but it's worth so much
    more.

I don't make a dime telling you this. The WSO
creator (one of Jasons students) will -- and
    rightfully so.

In fact, he should have charged much, much
    more.

But...yea...if you want to learn from a guy who
is a millionaire...that would be the FIRST source
I go to because you're going to get a wide
    range of opinions...

...some VERY spot on...some very BAD.

Problem is, you won't really know which advice
to act on confidently because you'll get so
many various opinions and it sounds like you're
not seasoned enough to know the difference
    yet.

You won't know who's giving you advice just
    to hear themselves talk...

...or who's giving you genuine advice that, if
    acted on, will work.

So I would start there with that course (google
    it -- that's how I found it).

one thing that you can add to your sequence is to send your email readers to a survey.

Tell them that you would like to know what they want to read about, hear about, see in your newsletter - also what kind of recipes are they interested in,

The more you narrow it down to say italian recipes, or baking recipes or how to lower blood sugar recipes, or quick recipes for the busy mother, the better.

You could even segment your list so you know that a part of your list is interested in quick recipes and the other part Italian recipes

Then you would only send quick recipe ideas to those subscribers interested in that.

    Get it?

Another thing is you can ask them questions at the end of an email getting them to respond on your blog - this will increase activity between you and your subscribers.

You could hold best recipe contests and offer up some sort of prize.

My brother is on a chef's list and that chef asks poeple to send in pictures of their favorite meals

So increase the interactivity between you and your list, and they will feel a part of the conversation and not feel like you are just selling them stuff

    Hi,

Change day 1's email to be something that asks how you can help them.

Ask them what the number 1 problem/question is they have right now and invite them to reply to get an answer.

They will open every single email you send after making that deeper connection.

On around the 5th/6th email, ask them what post you should write next, what do they want you to write about etc

Good advice. I ask my subs to fill in a short survey in my second email so I can find out more about them, what stage they are at, what they want to hear about and how often. You get a lot of good information from them and can't write follow up emails based on it.

Congratulations on the progress thus far. You've already done what most people can't and won't. If you're aim to develop a relationship, nothing is more effective than personal stories. I try to interject as many personal stories as I can in my emails. And for each story I tell, I try to tie it into my offers as a soft sell.

Story ---> Point of Story ----> Tie in with offer (soft sell)

Give a free offer every day, eventually shifting into larger 'offers'. Its the rule of reciprocation at its best.
