Default Do I have a chance?

When picking a niche, do I have a chance if there is 3 Million + sites which appear for that keyword? The site I create would have that keyword as a .net domain. I would be a site such as typeofproductsales.net and I would have ebay / amazon listings on it as well as reviews.

Of course you do - people throw these big numbers around all the time - I got first page for whatever, but they're not your real competition. It's not a perfect test but the search results in quotes gives a better indication of your competition.

You can throw up web pages that will get ranked instantly for certain phrases with huge competition (but of course they need searches and traffic to have any value)

I targeted one page on my blog for a search result which currently has 151,000,000 results - the blog is 4 months old, the page about 2 months, it has about twenty links to it and I rewrote it once to include more LSI keywords - it's currently ranked number 6.

But sometimes a phrase or word with much less competition can be much more difficult if people are actively targeting. You won't know until you try and get a feel for how difficult it is in my experience. But you can rank for any keyphrase if you put enough work into it.

Just my opinion...good luck

I think it's very difficult for 3M competitor sites on that keyword to rank on top position of all se. You should think about any long-tail keywords list which have medium seach amounts as your domain and put that winner long-tail keyword to your title tag also.

Yes. I have a very generic 2 word branded web site that gets top 3 in the big G, with 50,000,000 'competitors', and did it in a relatively short time too. (proof available - a short PM away) ;-)

Oh BTW you should be careful with your domain name. If it looks too stuffed with keywords, with a nonsensical domain name obviously targeting a certain phrase you're going to risk being marked as spam and you'll never get ranked.

Make it relevant and natural, to the sort of visitors you're trying to attract.

As long as you practice good SEO, you should definitely be fine. One of my AdSense sites right now is running on autopilot with occasional updates plus a Twitter account (all under WordPress) and is getting me roughly $10-15 a day. It used to be my general way of making money but I've since parted ways with AdSense being my primary source

Yes, you do have a chance. If your site is full of nice contents which the readers liked then it is a great chance for you. I think keyword does not really affect on your websites performance but it is the content.

Not only do you have a chance, you have a chance to make money.

If there are 3 million + sites for that keyword, that means that has a HUGE demand and there is HUGE amounts of money probably being spent like crazy. All you want is a fraction of a percent of the money being spent in that niche.

Go for it. Build an authority site for this niche that has rich and deep content, and you will get the longtail keyword searches to your site - and beat the competition.

Good luck.

I tend to go for the keywords that have less competition but go for more of them. Its quicker to start seeing results, at least that is what I have seen.

I also am new to this niche building process. But my mentors and friends tell me a lot of what has already been written here, that everyone has a chance. What I am being told is that looking for the sub-niche and really focusing your efforts on one specific thing first will help you to grow your business. I too would love to see instant internet success, but realize as I plod along that it's all a process and I have to learn the process first.

LordXenu theres nothing wrong with junkiee's! : ) .

Ok, now im very keen to start this site. Because I will be selling a specific product for example DVD Players, do you think I should use software such as Build A Niche Store – Succeed As An eBay Affiliate and then add

content pages such as:

Reviews
Common DVD problems
Which DVD is best for you
DVD history
ect...

OR - Should I do the above with the content side of things but add my own amazon + ebay links and maybe some clickbank products?

Im not sure what that software is like, but seems like it will make it ALOT faster.

Im just not 100% sure if that once adding the software you can add extra content pages.

Whad do you think?

Ok with that software you can add whatever pages, what do you think use the software or start from scratch? The software looks pretty neat and looks like it would save a heap of time.

I don't really feel confident starting a specialized site. I am planning to make a Lifehacker or TechCrunch style site, and these sites are far from specialized, but they earn nice amounts.
