Tips for Marketing a Site

I have a website, loiter.co, that grows at rate of about a 15%/month without any marketing, backlink building, etc. So, after being up for about 8 months, the site now gets about 1000 unique visitors a day. Since the site has proven it will sustain growth, I'm looking to find the most cost-effective ways of attracting more visitors and really growing the user base.

I'm considering posting on relevant forums, trying to get media coverage, or anything creative to get traffic. I just want to know what has worked the best for you to get the most out of my time spent marketing. I've never really done marketing before.

Thanks!

PS. I don't want to do anything blackhat or automated. And I still don't have much of a budget to spend on the site, so I'm not looking for any paid services.

Marketing is all about the message and the conversation you want to have with your audience. Think about what your goal is with the website. Are you trying to monetize it (if you really are getting 1000 unique visitors a day then you really should put up an adsense box or two, since you're leaving money on the table every day).

Once you have focused on what your goal is with the site, and written a clear mission statement for your goal, the actual marketing will be easy. Just make sure you are taking a step back and thinking what visitors will be looking for on your website. At the moment I don't think there is a clear message on your site that indicates what it actually represents, even a short descriptive subtitle under the header would be an great improvement.

Right now I'd recommend refining and improving your copy on your website before driving any more traffic, otherwise you're just going to get a high bounce rate (if you don't already).

      Agree.

      What is this website exactly?

It's very confusing. I see videos and photos. Is this Web 2.0?

Add some copy to your main landing page or a marketing video to explain what the site is, why people should use it and why they should tell their friends about it.

Then start driving traffic and testing.

Now that you got the traffic, it’s time to focus on building your audience any way you can. Social media and building a an email list of subscribers are paramount.
