Alternatives to video for dial up users?

Just got a request from a member on my site who's using dial up - she can't watch my videos (hosted on Viddler) and wanted to know if there was an alternative way for her to access the info. I told her a transcript wouldn't do much good without the pictures. But I'm thinking one of you clever folks may have an idea for a low-bandwidth way to present or repackage short videos so dialup folks can access. Powerpoint? ebook with still shots? Any (not-too-time-consuming) ideas?

      Hi

To produce the smallest possible file size you could:
      • Lower the framerate
      • Reduce the bandwidth on the audio channel
      • If they are screencasts you could maybe even lower the resolution a bit (or a lot if the pan and zoom are optimized).
      • Re-encode using H.264 in MP4 (great compression and Adobe Flash Player can playback this format).
It will probably take some tweaking to find the optimal trade-off between acceptable image quality and file size. Once you've found it though everything could be batch processed.

Thanks all. They're in flash already, so I honestly don't know how many dial-uppers are having problems with them. For all I know, it could be just one person.

        I'll look into your suggestions.

Another thing that you could make smaller (to reduce the amount of data that you're transferring) would be the frame size. Having looked at your site video, it looks like it's recorded in widescreen (probably 720 x 480). I would therefore recommend that you try 400 x 225.

An alternative would be to just do an audio clip.
