So... I released the novel and it got stuck. The other lil book keeps going slow and steady, but this one... NOPE.

In the rankings, it was nowhere to be found.

The promotion is different from these to non fiction, there are pretty much no keywords, it is all about branding.


Yesterday and today I put the free days, and it climbed to #4 in both historical and epic fantasy!

It was downloaded 746 times, and it is 436 in the general free rankings.

With the other lil one, I saw an increase of 50% in sales after the free days, but that one goes steady.

Maybe this one starts moving... certainly hope so...

    Isn't it fun watching those free downloads? I set mine to free over a weekend. Couldn't stop refreshing and tracking the count. Fun stuff.

      Yep!! it is a lot of fun. It is also puzzling. In the other book, the free downloads were 400 and something, and it was pulling 1.5 sales a day or so, later moved to more or less 2.5 sales a day.

      In this case, it was stuck badly... and now it is exploding 765 downloads right now. I don´t really get the numbers... this market is very different.

      Sometime ago we played with idea of increasing the assessed value of the book increasing the price before giving the free days. I did this with this book, took it from 99 cents to 2.99. That might be helping.

      Also the connection channels opened by the free days promoting sites.

    I have yet to publish my first fiction novel and I am encouraged by your stat. I have had some success with non fiction but my target is fiction. I think fiction is more profitable, especially the YA sub-genre...

    I've got one that started today. Got off to a slow start. Amazon's TOS says it could be available for free up to "...several hours..." after midnight Pacific time. For me it was a bit more than two. Beginning to pick up now. I have at least one paid promo for each of the five days.

    Also, freebooksy emailed me saying they made The Truth Witch one of their featured freebies today. Know why? The cover. Covers make a BIG difference. Good luck Sandra. BTW, love the cover on The Pearl.

    If it's free for a couple of days, make sure to add your book to all of the sites that promote free Kindle book promotions (if you haven't already).

    If it gets picked up by even a few of them, it will surge your downloads big time!

      also they have a forum,

      and there is Amazon forum MOA (Meet our authors, the only forum where authors can do promotion),

      and all the other channels I created for the novel per se: the squidoo lenses, the site, places where I put the rss of the site, etc...

      Did anyone try press releases for this? it could be done, I think.

    Pretty sweet, Sandra. Let's hope you get to see more sales. I recently published a similar story (epic, fantasy) and it's sold an AMAZING (not) 2 copies this month. So yeah, that genre is tough to crack.

            What I have personally found is that it takes thousands of free downloads to really get a spike in sales after. If you are picked up by a free book site that can help trigger those downloads tremendously.

              You were right.

              I think it is a matter of momentum. If the book is already selling, it does pick up a bit. If the book is not selling... this is not it.

              Interesting, I will probably need two or three books in the series before seeing any result. Better get to work.
