Help with Outsourcing-Please help

I have been trying to research outsourcing online and finally decided it would probably be best just to ask the Warriors ... Do any of you have any recommendations for places to find good Virtual Assistants/Seo/Wordpress people to assist me in growing my business?

I tried to follow the sites from Tim Farris' 4 Hour Work Week but not having any luck ...

Pleas Help!

You can get exactly what you want and Odesk, but you need to have a REALLY tough interview before hiring someone! I went through 53 applicants before hiring my VA and I still have him now after all this time (good recruiting job on my part).

In conclusion, you can't hire anyone just from someone else's reviews or from what skill they have listed on their profile. You must try them out yourself first.

EDIT: I forgot to mention the most important thing "You get what you pay for" so if you're after hirig filipinos for $2-5/hour don't expect perfection, if you really want serious staff you must raise the bar a bit.

    Hello CJHALLOCK,

Depending on what exactly you're interested in outsourcing, I may be of service. I promote websites organically, dispersing high-quality, human-crafted articles to blogs and article directories.

For other services like Wordpress installation and maintenance, and "virtual assistants", Elance.com has proved to be an excellent resource for me. Many high quality freelancers get most or all of their work there, and the site has acted as a foundation for many strong, lasting business relationships.

For quicker/simpler tasks, or certain involved tasks like programming a new Android or iOS App Guru.com can be an excellent resource. The workers on Guru are foreign and have English as a second language, but I've heard they are significantly less expensive than Elance and other similar sites.

    Hope this helps!
    -Sam

You can be manipulated by bad providers at Odesk and Elance, and they don’t protect their customers. They protect their service providers. I had terrible experiences with these sites.

You should study internet marketing and know very well what you need before outsourcing. You can also hire Warriors at their section, but you had better learn more so that you won't look like a newbie because many people take advantage of the ignorance of the newbies online.

They lie to you, they let you wait, they make many mistakes, they never finish their work, etc.

I've had, and still am, a lot of success with odesk. Follow these rules and you'll be ok:

    1. Have applicants respond to your job with a codeword so that you can quickly weed out the generic replies.

    2. Only consider applicants with positive feedback. (4 stars+)

    3. Give some type of test that is directly related to your job BEFORE hiring.

    4. Hire the candidate with the understanding that the first week or so will be a test to see if they are fit to continue.

    5. Have your sh*t together. Make sure you have VERY specific and detailed documentation ready to go. I just make a recording using Camtasia Studio and add annotations.

    6. Randomly check screenshots to make sure that they are doing your work when on the clock. If not, dispute it. I usually give a warning first, but after that it's ZERO tolerance. End contract. Negative feedback. Dispute hours. As time goes on and you build a better relationship/trust with your contractors you can lay off a bit on the timesheet/screenshot checking.

    7. DO give bonuses and positive feedback. A bonus doesn't have to be anything big, but it works wonders at keeping your contractors loyal to you.

Follow those rules and you won't have any problems. You can also apply this to just about any other service outside of odesk as well. Good luck

You can try ODesk since many prospects are their looking for jobs. BUT first, you should do a research if the service provider is fitted for the job like experience, or have an experience on your marketing plans. Try to find people who balance good working value and good results. Do interviews. Since many people are looking for jobs which they don't have any idea what they are about to dive in.

There was good advice in the 4 hour work week book regarding hiring a VA. Detail the tasks that you want outsourced before placing a project summary. This will help you define what you are looking for. You can probably find what you want at the big 4 freelance sites - elance, odesk, freelancer, and guru. If you have concerns, you can hire someone for a very short time for a small project to see how they do.

    Good luck.

By the way if you are doing outsourcing unless you are financially independent don't leave your day job until your Internet campaigns consistently earn more than you earn in your day time job. IM success takes time for 99% on IMers . The Hail Mary pass that allows people to get out of financial pain on one month from the time they start on earnest is less than 1 in million.

if you need virtual assistant for trivial work, you should try odesk.com. even google company outsource from there for their web research work. some people have bad experience when trying to outsource from these site, but it actually happen in any outsource site. we need to realize that we are hiring stranger on the internet. so the only way to motivate them is by fee, bonus, and be nice; as simple as that.

If you have a detail instruction of what you need to have done by VA, then you can hire from many places as mentioned above. But if you also need help to guide and monitor VA is doing the best job then you can check company like BDhire.com ( Full Time ,Part Time Virtual Assistant For Web Services) . BDhire.com offers full time ,Part time VA with the skills you mentioned . When they recruit the employee , train the employee and they take the responsibility to get the best result from the VA.

@CJHALLOCK: are you still even on or monitoring this thread? If so, it's generally kinda nice to acknowledge some of the ideas that you're getting?

That said, outsourcing is a tough game to play if you're not very clear on your processes. Most folks new to outsourcing expect that they will be able to pass generic tasks over to their VA and then walk away and expect the job to get done, which invariably leads to disappointment and frustration, both for you and your VA.

You have to have great processes if you want to outsource cheaply. Get into the habit of believing that there is no such thing as a generic task and nobody comes fully trained.

Think of it this way: The more your staff member has to think, the more you have to pay them.

This works across hiring full stop. McDonalds and Walmart pay bugger all, but they can only do this because the majority of their staff members don't have to think at all while they are working because their processes are so well developed that even 15 year olds can do it.

So if you want to outsource cheaply and effectively then you want to take all of the tasks that you need done, grab a copy of Jing or Snagit, and do a comprehensive video of every single task that you need done in exhaustive detail.

Grab a screencast account for $10 per month, and they host all of the videos and make embedding a dream. Personally I don't want to use YouTube or Vimeo because then i'm just giving away my processes to anybody that wants them.

Don't leave anything out, and be as clear as possible.

Then create a quick wordpress site, and add those videos to the site.

Then, start off with one task, and work with your VA until they've nailed that task, then continue on to the next task until all of the tasks that you need done have been fully trained.

Listen to your VA and take note of which parts of the videos confuse them, and then get in there and fix them.

That way, when your VA moves on, you'll have your processes ready to go and training the next guy will be easy.

If your business kicks in and grows, you won't have to worry about scaling because you can just hire another VA and get them to watch the videos.

I promise you, this is your recipe to solid outsourcing success and is exactly what I do with my VAs, one of whom I have had working with me for over 2 years.

As an aside, I work with various offices in the Philippines and act as an intermediary to help you do exactly the process that I've described. If that's of interest just PM me.
