I am still on the stage of using the free Wordpress themes. This might be off topic, but... I want to learn how I could make my own theme later on... Anybody who wants to give any input? Thanks in advance... |

I use Artisteer and you can see my video here and the theme being used is made with the program. If you don't want to buy it you can still download the software and send me your artx file and I will compile for you for $5. Why don't you just make your "own custom theme" off of one you already like? That's what I do. I use ithemes and wpremix for my base templates and then tweak them to suite my needs. Some of my sites look completely different than the original design. Good luck.

If you want to actually learn to code your own themes, as opposed to using something like artiseer (despite any sales copy claims the simple fact is that you DO trade control for the ease of use), Ideefixe is dead on. The best way to learn is to grab a free theme and start modifying it. See what happens and ask specific questions based on your results. |

Hey There, If you are serious about learning to code Wordpress from the bottom up then you should visit this site. It will help if you have some prior knowledge of HTML/CSS/PHP but even without any of those you will still get a sound base by going through that tutorial. If you are not too fussed about getting under the hood and are happy to spend a little I've heard a few people recommend Artiseer but I've yet to try it. Ultimately you are probably best searching extensively for a decent free theme or spending a small amount for the perfect premium theme unless you plan on developing a few of your own or becoming a designer. Best Regards, Daniel McClure P.S. The link for that tutorial again is: WPDesigner.com So you want to create WordPress themes huh? |
