Is there anything you wouldn't do for money?

Hey all,

Just wanted to start a discussion and see if there was anyone who has ever turned down money (or turned off money) because they didn't agree with how it was being made?

I remember that previous to me becoming successful online I absoluelty hated the 9-5 dayjob I was working in and I used to say that I didn't care how I made money as long as I was making money. Years later it actually happened and I started to make alot of money with some CPA offers (it was the easiest and fastest money I ever made). The problem was that I began to feel bad promoting offers to people knowing that the offers made those people jump through so many hoops for even a chance to get the offer. So I literally turned off the campaign and all the money that came with it just because I wanted to help people instead. Same goes for all those get rich quick schemes and really hypy sales copy. I rather make less money while helping people then make alot of money from being shady.

So have you ever turned down or turned off money because you didnt agree with it?

I've tried plenty of money making schemes but never stuck with them because it was about the money and nothing else. That doesn't feel right to me. Like you, I prefer to do something that helps people; it has to be win-win otherwise it feels wrong.

But I have never went against my ethics. I do not work with any adult website regardless much much money they are paying, never tried to cheat anyone.

Turned down a rather large project b/c it promoted a program that essentially allowed folks from around the globe to 'purchase' a visa into the US. I don't remember the particulars but it went something like "invest a minimum of $500000 into an existing US business or invest $500000+ starting a new business in the US and get a visa w/o all of the red tape"

It may have been legit but the thought of promoting a program that made it possible for anyone to buy a visa didn't sit right. That's just me though

Porn, gambling, and the type CPA you referred to.
      {{ DiscussionBoard.errors[7818158].message }}
  • Basically anything based on a lie I wouldn't promote. If the program is legit, and it helps the end user, it doesn't matter what it is, be it gambling, porn or self-help. I don't know how some of the marketers who try to sell solutions to people with cancer who are desperate sleep at night, I honestly don't.

There's another side to this, however.

There is MORE money to be made dishonestly and illegally. You can make it faster. You can make it easier.

Just think about the reality of fraud for a moment.

If you are an honest and legal person, you can only tell people the truth about whatever you're selling.

But if you're willing to commit fraud, you can tell them anything. It's fully automated and push-button simple, set it and forget it, costs nothing more ever and is totally waterproof and whitens your teeth while you sleep. Four out of five experts agree.

Consider that when people offer you a faster and easier way to make more money. The fastest and easiest way to make more money is to lie. This is not difficult to figure out. A lot of those faster and easier ways aren't so much explaining the method itself, but their justification for how it's not really lying and it's not really dishonest and it's technically perfectly legal.

And that's the ones that really are faster and easier. Do the math on why most of them aren't.

Nothing grossly immoral, which for me includes things like: child pornography, bestiality, preying on the elderly, blatantly scamming people out of their hard earned money, exploiting people, extortion (like the mugshot removal services), deceptive schemes and anything else that would make me lose sleep at night.

Money comes and goes but ethics doesn't once its gone, it is tough to get it back.

There is a lot of things I wouldn't do for money, and I do actually mean a lot. If a day comes and I am welling to by pass my ethics for money, I would put myself out of business.

Ummmm... Well, when I was a kid , I turned off a job at a shoe store. It was good money tho, especially for a kid. But srsly, just imagine. The shoe store! Ewww! So gross!

PS. And..I wouldn't have sex with a Mexican man for a million bucks...Just sayin.

UPD: Oh and btw. If there's anything you want a "warrior" to do that others refuse (like: child pornography, bestiality, preying on the elderly, blatantly scamming people out of their hard earned money, exploiting people, extortion. etc.). PM me, and we'll talk..Just a quick shameless plug!

I used to have ads business in gambling, it feels so wrong and I turned it down eventually. After starting a new affiliate marketing and failed twice, once in a while, I regret my decision to leave the gambling business. But I keep going on, because good business means satisfaction, once by affiliate marketing paid off, I never regret the decision that I made that day.

CD brings up an interesting point that goes back to the people "dont know what they dont know", so, they buy into someones scenario that they are ripely set up for...
If you have no experience in a thing then you can't say it works, so, you defer to the so called expert. Writing, phone conversations, webinars, face to face, media print, banners ads, are all forms of poetry that the merchant have created to siphon your money out your pocket.

Bravo to majic marketers I guess.

On another note: I can imagine how many people who have untapped potential, but, just wasn't taught the reality of things because they were swayed by the easy method that they thought were true.
My only advice is always look for inconsistencies in someones bio/offerings of various products.

As for OP sure there are things I wont do for money because if I did everything I probably would have hit that illusive $______ mark i'm privately yearning for.

We run an outsourcing or BPO company out of Davao City, Philippines.

We had the opportunity to hire and scale up agents to work online as porn lures...luring paid users to particular porn sites for cash. They were offering an hourly + commission on every deal we brought in.

There was another opportunity to handle the Customer Service for an escort site based in the UK.

They were both fairly lucrative, but we turned them both down.

I have no issue with porn or escorts, necessarily, but we decided that's not the business we want to be in. There are plenty of other ways to make money, plenty of other opportunities, etc.

Every single day of my online career I turn down opportunities to make a lot of money.

You can make fast money and lot of money online if you are prepared to be immoral, illegal or uncaring.

Everyone has there own line to draw in the sand.
I personally draw that line very close.

I did the same in my day job before and in my personal life and see no reason to behave differently just because I am online.

I know some people can do pretty much anything and have no concience and fear no consequence but I can't work or live like that.

I'm don't consider myself a prude or a saint but I am happy to leave the porn, gambling, MLM, scams, lies, cons, frauds and thefts to others. I know there will be no shortage of people happy to fill those slots.

    Interesting reads.

I too desperately want to just make enough to live, but I also want to really help people.

What I also realize, is that some people can't be as easily helped as others!

What I mean by that is I think it's ok to use sales psychology to butter up your prospects....you simply have to "hustle"

If the value in the product you promote is there, the price is worth it, and it's not a flat out scam, it's ok with me!

It's not my fault if someone buys and doesnt apply!

I would turn down anything that I find wrong, leading to the suffering of others or that I just don't agree with. For example, I deny all orders about promoting smoking and cigarettes. I was born with asthma and my parents smoked a lot around me when I was a kid, which killed my lungs.

I'm not about to help someone promote that (or e-cigs) just to make some money.

I'd also refuse to write about products that are just meant to scam people out of money.

Yes, we all need money to live in today's world, but there's no sense in doing something you will regret.

Oh yea I've turned down more than one opportunity that didn't sit well with me.
I've been in the adult business as a 'middle man' for years, I actually had two tickets to the Playboy Mansion about seven years ago, my wife and I decided not to go. I've been approached by people wanting me to do things I'm not comfortable with so I just don't do it, not that what the folks have offered is bad in and of itself, just ain't right for me and my own...

I've recently turned down a charity foundation which wanted me to help out with their image and presence on the internet .
The reason : the foundation management had salaries of 5000+ usd , and some of the main members 2000+
These salaries were being payed from DONATIONS and they also offered to pay me 1500 for my services.
I told them to go f&&k themselves and set out on a personal vendeta against the management. I hope to bring those a-holes down and get the right people to manage the foundation, people who understand what ''charity'' stands for.

In the UK many small charities pay their staff wages NOT from donations but from grants/funding that are given for staff costs. That money cannot be used to further their charitable work as it is awarded specifically for staff costs/equpiment/whatever-else-was-put-in-the-funding-application.

Don't judge too quickly without knowing how their staff wages are being paid.

I am aware of that , but this case i'm talking about wasn't funded that way. I got my facts straight before i started/declined

    Interesting topic.

I find it strange people are so against porn and gambling. The way I see it there's nothing wrong with either, people choose to watch porn and they choose to gamble. Both are legal in my home country and in many others around the world. Sure some people get addicted to gambling but some people get addicted to anything.

The reason : the foundation management had salaries of 5000+ usd , and some of the main members 2000+
These salaries were being payed from DONATIONS and they also offered to pay me 1500 for my services.

I'm pretty sure that's how most charities are run, they cover their costs including salaries from donations and then use the rest for their charitable ventures. What else can they do? You'll struggle to find many people who'll work for free especially at the top of the organisation. Who's going to do a really difficult and stressful job without being paid?

Exactly. For a forum that is about making money, I find it really strange that for most people porn is a turn off. Besides, from my personal experience I can tell that it's a lot easier to make thousands with porn than with let's say.... affiliate marketing.
