Authority Amazon Sites Or Multiple Sites

Would it be a better idea to just create a review site of your own and do just that? I think that would work great for your authority! Hope this helps!

I am creating an amazon site in "zero" niches. Adding reviews on any product. 50ish posts and 2 months old I have had over 7000 visitors (PR2). Traffic would be more targeted in a niche website but the whole point of any amazon affiliate website is to get people to amazon and let them do the selling.

I'd got with a big enough niche to get traction if you're going the seo route. If you're going the paid traffic route, go niche specific.

Danny - That's awesome. I would love to try something like this and may in the future. My next site though will probably be with a brand able domain covering a range of products in a certain niche. Sort of like your site, only it will cover a broad niche, such as bedding & bath.

Consider both. I have a product-centric site that's my hub authority in the niche which offers more than just reviews. I also have several microsites within the niche. In fact, I use this model in 2 niches - one for a physical product line and one for services.

Otherwise, if you must choose, opt for authority. There are other decisions to be made such as focusing on one or a few products in the line or trying to review all of them (not easy and not that much fun). I prefer publishing great reviews on the products I use. I often buy 5 to 10 products in a product line, try them out and choose my top three to five to write about. I avoid publishing scathing reviews and instead state I've tried X number of products and these are my top 3 etc.

You also have to decide whether to stick to one product line or go into related product lines such as printers. It's not an easy decision. If you go into related product lines, you might consider re-framing the site as a "home office set up" site or something that targets a group of readers who likely need a variety of products and help achieving something, which information you provide via reviews, tutorials, how-to articles, personal experience articles, etc.

I've said this before depends on how quick you need money coming in and how much time you have to work on your business.

I have a similar set up to Jgant where I have a couple of authority sites and then some smaller sites at 15-20 pages. I also use Squidoo as sort of sniper sites as well.

That is because there are multiple people on this forum. That's what a forum IS. If you want one and only one opinion, you are looking for a blog, not a forum.

Whenever you cannot make a decision, you need more information. If you cannot get more information - whether because it is not available, or because it is too expensive, or because you simply don't have time - then all potentially valid choices are equally valid and you should choose arbitrarily.

I would advise to start of with an Authority site and make it the very best you can and focus 100% effort into that site adding lots of reviews, informative articles, comparison articles, answer questions within youe niche that people are searching online for, etc, make it a site that is so jam packed with valuable content and you will for sure start making good coin.

I am still a fan of EMD sites and they can still be very very profitable and are generally faster to produce income however they can be a lot of work and organization so I would say focus on a really good authority site and then after you are rolling with that feel free to start on some EMD sniper sites . (when i say sniper I do not mean thin sites I mean sites focused on one particular product but with around 50 pages of associated content)

I think both are good, what matter is the quality, you can have lots of post low quality in a big site and one letal small site with a few very quality posts/articles and maybe with better results

Personally I'm starting with a very small site while plan a more big (although not so big, just focused in a niche and even not covering it all aspect of the niche)

You should aim for your site to be an authority no matter how big your niche is. That means if you can only possibly write 20 posts on something, you make it the best 20 posts on that "niche" that there is, and position yourself as the expert.

When people ask me whether they should create an authority site, or build several of them, I take it as them asking, do I bother to help my visitors? Or should I just stick up some content on lots of different sites and hope my traffic converts? Because even single product type sites can be an authority site.

The difference is you can have a broad authority site, or as targeted as a product specific authority site, bestbinocularsreviews.com being a good example of that.

The only difference I give other people between the two is the earning and traffic potential. One is potentially limitless, while the other does have its cap.

I've got a handful of single product type sites that are as big as bestbinocularsreviews.com, but I'm also building out a much larger broader review site that is having specialists staff write reviews on a wide range of products.

So your question here shouldn't be, do I go for an authority site, or as I like to put it, do I create a site that actually helps my consumers? The question is do I create specific sites that have a cap on earning and traffic potential and thus need to create more to supplement income, or do I focus on one big site (doesn't have to completely broad, for example some stick to a select few products, or Electronics only) that has potential for larger profits and traffic. The only difference between the two is with specific sites you need to find a domain, setup hosting and the website, and preferably a relevant logo and theme layout. With a broader site you only do that once. The research is still the same for both sites, and so is the keyword research (or it should be, since content or articles shouldn't be better just because they are on a broader and larger site).

*EDIT* Just realized I put "the only difference is" like 2-3 times You get what I mean!

Authority all the way. Any long tail keywords you were going to target in a mini site can just be individual, optimised pages on your authority site.

Listen to what Gaz told you above. Now, he is a bit more of a fan of EMDs than I am but his message was clear. Focus on one good site first. There area few of us who do very well as affiliates. We are successful because we've tested many things.

I do very well with a handful of "authority" sites. It's much cheaper and easier to maintain a handful of sites than 50 "niche" sites.

I prefer to start with a small niche site and then expand it if I get quality traffic. Like starting with "Nokia mobile phone cable" and then expand to a bigger Keyword like "mobile phone" or multiple other targets. (I didn't check these keywords :-) )

I got an authority site built for me and it is giving me a faster profit that the emd's I built. This is just me but I think that authority sites do much better espeically in the long run!

Authority websites will be the better investment long-term, unless you plan to profit by selling the small niche sites themselves.

I would pick a category, for example, kitchen appliances (Something broadish) and make the authority site around that. So you have an overall theme of the site but it is still targeted to products which are similar to others. I would do it like this so your reviews look on topic, I wouldn't like to read a review about a toaster then the next review be about a painting, it wouldn't feel right.
