Five Figures At Last! My Story Here..

Good morning warriors,

For those who are familiar with my username, recall that I come here every once in a while to ask questions and seek the advice of successful CPA marketers on this forum. I've been doing CPA marketing since 2009, though rather unsuccessfully so to say but I never gave up! I have tried lots of strategies and learnt from my mistakes all through the years and this made me improve over time. I'm not here to tell you all I've gone through but to let you know that CPA marketing is real and worth the price. Whatever you do please just don't give up.. Even if it's not paying now it will surely pay later! Learn from your every move and use it to improve the next.

At the moment I am an affiliate of about Four affiliate networks and I make money from all of them. I started recording heavy successes early this year. I don't do SEO and I don't do SEM as my experiences with these traffic sources over time wasn't so pleasant. I only patronize banner advertising and media buys. I don't patronize funny softwares and I'm yet to even build a list! Although I'm working on developing a good targeted list of subscribers in my niches. I have done lots of testing in which thousands of dollars was used to test campaigns against different traffic sources, and guess what I discovered? Most of these traffic sources are not fake, it's just a function of your offer and how well it's suited to that particular traffic source. Even for two very similar offers, one might just convert well above the other, like I said it's a function of TESTING! Just TEST your way to success simple!

For the sake of erasing doubt, please find below a snapshot of my earnings this month so far from one of the networks I work with, and just to set the records straight, my offers with this particular network give me an ROI of about 200% on average. Sometimes the ROI is as high as 400%!

I will be coming around to answer any questions raised on this tread. I will also try as much as possible to assist with valuable information but please don't expect me to give you the complete secrets of what I am doing lol. There's more than enough money to be made out there only if you know what you are doing and are determined enough.

Thanks and God bless..

Congratulations! Those are awesome figures! I just have a couple questions.

First, how many websites do you own that have CPA offers on them?

Secondly, how old are those websites?

    Congrats!

Are you sending your traffic just to the offers pitch page or do you presell them with a landing page first?

It really depends on the offer type. I do both though but in my case I'm getting the most success from sending traffic directly to the offer page. I really believe this depends on the traffic type and the offer itself. If the traffic is targeted enough please do not waste their time.. Send them directly to the offer!

Hey Tim! Thanks for dropping by..
I have about 6 functional websites at the moment. Four of them have CPA offers while only about 3 of them make me money for now. The figure you saw above came from just one offer/website.
To your second question, the age of my websites matter less to me as I'm not really interested in SEO. Some of those sites are over 3 years old while the one that makes me the most money is just about a year old. you see?

      Hi,

Well done, your perseverance seems to be paying off nicely.

So that's about $185k a year from one site and you have 3 of them making money - that's a nice place to be and I'm sure inspirational to many members.

Thanks for sharing your success story.

Looks like excellent results. Well done.
Although you don't want to give away your "secrets" and that is understandable - can you give some more information on the logistics of this. As the poster said above, how many sites involved (don't think the age will matter much if you don't use SEO). Really, just an indication of what would be required to get to where you are now would be much appreciated by a few I think
How many hours a day do you work on this would be an obvious question?
    Any input greatly appreciated.
    Cheers

Don't worry, just ask your questions directly and I promise to assist as much as I can. At the moment i work just a few hours a day (between 2 to 4 hours). Don't get me wrong though.. I had paid the price all these years! Before I got to this level there were months I hardly left my computer for up to an hour during the day or at night.

A very familiar story The difference is that you persevered when others gave up. So well done.
If only more people realized that online marketing is not a get rich quick scheme and hard work is required to be successful. However, the rewards longer term are well worth the effort for sure.

      @ Sam Woods,
MaxBounty, MoreNiche, SureHits and BrokersWeb.. I'm not necessarily saying these are the best affiliate networks but 80% of my earnings ever online came from these.
I also recorded some success with PeerFly too but decided to concentrate on MaxBounty since the offers from both networks are very similar and I didn't want to spread my income over so many networks.

The line 'best places' is relative. What is best for me is not necessarily best for another person. It's all about discovering the offers that work best for particular traffic sources. For banner, I basically use networks like pulse360, advertising/advertise.com . For media buys I simply find and write the owners of very targeted, high traffic site owners. I also use bing content network and google content network as those are not too demanding or problematic for affiliates.

I congratulate your progress but I'm also not a fan of these types of threads. I think all they do is seem to sidetrack people into yet another way of making money online.

People, those numbers above are most likely real. But if CPA is not already part of your plan then don't drop everything and now run off trying CPA marketing.

Just stick to one thing. Those numbers are nice but there are tons of other ways to make that kind of money, and much more. So stick to your plans. It's the fastest way you will see those types of figures.

I love reading success stories and I hope people continue posting them, but I second WillR to really think twice about dropping everything and jumping into CPA. The only reason to try CPA if you're currently deploying a different method is if you're seriously considering implementing paid traffic into your current business model ... I think training with some CPA is good for learning.

Using paid traffic and CPA is great for people who love ad creation and number-crunching. If you're a content creator, that's a totally different beast and skillset.

I still love this thread for the inspiration element and I think it's great when someone jumps on willing to answer questions thoroughly about successful methods.

I agree people shouldn't sidetrack anytime they see a success thread, but there are loads of people who are into CPA marketing, so for them this will no doubt inspire.

Congratulations Emmerlee. What impresses ME the most is not the fact that your ROI was 200%, although that IS impressive, but that you were willing, after so many years of, as you stated, being unsuccessful, to put that much money into your advertising.

I've always been hesitant to pay for advertising for fear that it will be money wasted. And, after seeing your results, this gives me a huge clue as to why I haven't gotten the results I crave with all of my being.

To the OP. How much do you pay for media buys? Do you negotiate or accept the site owner's asking price? I am guessing most of these are banners. Do you run them for a month and then renew or pay for longer term?

Are your sites small (few pages) around one product i.e. like a review site?

It depends on the site, traffic volume and the perceived quality. If you are experienced enough on how to weigh traffic quality on any site (demographics, volume, site title/topic etc), you already know the limit you can go in negotiating price. Sometimes I place banners but most times I use text links. I also do direct linking most of the time.
For media buys I prefer paying monthly but anyone you prefer is just good.

11.95% CTR that is the highest I've ever seen. Not saying it's not so, just saying it's very, very high. Very high.

But then that is a relatively low number of queries. The sites your advertising on must be very, very Niche.

The ROI your getting is crazy high.

I know someone throwing nearly a Million bucks a month on Media Buys, he's my mentor and he's not getting that.

    Is that stone cold traffic?...
Yeah it's a surprise to me too! Never knew I could attain that level of ROI using media buys and banner ads. But like I said before it all boils down to testing. Now let me give you a little secret about the offer giving me that ROI above:
When I started pushing traffic to the offer, I made sure I bought traffic from as many related high traffic sites as possible on the web (I decided the minimum requirements for such sources). I was getting thousands of clicks a day with relatively very low amount of conversions. Then I realized that some pages/sites are probably converting while others are just eating up advertising costs! have you ever heard about the 80-20 rule? It states that 80% of your profits come from just about 20% of your sources.
The next goal then was to sieve out the bad sources and concentrate on the good ones. Since I don't patronize softwares I decided to duplicate and dedicate one unique page for each traffic source (webpage or website) with conversion pixels placed. This helped me to easily Identify the good sources. Notice that I'm always using webpages in my explanation. This is because some pages convert better than others even in the same high traffic website.
Next, I was then measuring the conversion rates in relation to the ad costs. The pages doing extremely well were retained and more months were paid for while for the not so good pages, I contacted the site owners and asked for a reduction in placement costs so that my campaign can be profitable. They will mostly give in if you explain well (at least in my case).
Note: I don't believe in running unprofitable placements for months or even weeks for the sake of gathering data. If it's not converting today and tomorrow it probably will never convert!

Next level is to scale up and reach more traffic sources and on and on and on...

Take the above as a mini case study.. hope it's making some sense.

That just looks out of whack to me.

Not saying that's not possible, yes every single person who clicks your banner could convert, but
      I've never had that.

Just to take the first row ok...

I'm assuming by queries your network means impressions, it must do cos otherwise the numbers don't add up.

You have had 1,239 queries at a 11.95% CTR that is 148 clicks (as above).

Your total rev for that day was: $1,011.36

If I divide that figure by $6.83 which I'm assuming is your CPA payout but I can't see you scrubbed it out, that also equals 148.

So your CTR and Conversions is giving me the same answer, that's odd, it looks like every single person who clicked your banner converted, in CPA that's unheard of, in Media Buys it's black magic..

CTR is the rate at which people see your banner and Clickthru as you know.

I can't see the other columns, but reverse engineering that, something looks wrong.

I sent this thread to my mentor and we both kind of agree that is the highest CTR we have
ever seen from direct media buys to stone cold traffic.

Just to put it into context, I spend good wedge on Media Buys and my MOST KICK ASS ad right now is doing 0.895% CTR your at 11.95%.

It's not the highest I have had 1.2% before and that crushed it.

Fair play to you. But jeez that's HIGH.

That's my best performing ad right now and that is banking.

So, you know, not saying it isn't true, just one or two things look strange to my eye balls.
Hi Drunkenmoney, I think you are mixing the stats up..

The term 'queries' (e.g 1239 for the 1st) as seen above are actually not impressions but are the clicks to the landing page of the offer while the 148 represent the conversions. Media buy impressions cannot (most likely) be recorded by ad networks even when their banners are used. Only clicks to their offer page via banner or text link (in case of direct linking) can be measured by them. I dont know why they chose to call it queries but they actually represent the clicks to the offer page. Your assertion that every click converted is wrong as only 11.95% did and that took weeks of tweaking and 'sieving'. Again the CTR tab above represents the 'Conversion Rate' and I dont know why they chose to use CTR. That however is the least of my worries as long as my campaign is working and the money is rolling in.

My traffic sources have been clearly explained in this thread.. Yes, it is possible to send traffic to affiliate offers and that's what internet marketing is all about. Recall that I explained how I contact high traffic site owners for a space on their site to display links to my site or affiliate offers (banner, text link). That's more like media buying. 'Media buys' is actually a bit broader but this is the most simple definition I can give.

Theres plenty of places, you can use somewhere like this to buy some ad space - Buy Ads | BuySellAds

Or you could just use Google and search for - keyword + blog, find the best/busiest sites in your niche and directly email the site owners asking to buy ad space.

Here's a great list of paid traffic sources.

I have tried BuySellAds, its a good site. The advert is only going to work if the offers right, and if its on the right website which is relevant to the product etc. There are lot more variables than the platform where you find the ad space. Its no good advertising male enhancement pills on a pet training blog, know what I mean?

Those are some inspiring numbers. I do a bit of CPA, but nothing like those numbers. Which is giving you a better ROI, the banner ad networks, text ads or media buys? I presume you are placing decent size banners on these high traffic blogs. I did a test once using a 160x600 skyscraper ad and managed to get over a 30% CTR on an ad network. I was using the CPM model and managed to get the cost per visitor down to about a 1p. I never did scale it or study the data more like you have. There is so much testing to do but it seems worth it after seeing your post. Is there a way of tracking impressions with a media buy, or does that differ depending on the site / network? And are you using Prosper, Bevo etc?

Teeth whitening, Health and beauty, Insurance, dating and dog training. Any other offer that fits the traffic sources I have is good too even if I don't have websites for them. It's very possible to make money without sites.
