Self-Hosted Autoresponder?

Hey Guys and Gals!

I use both Aweber AND GetResponse for 99.999 percent of ALL my marketing stuff. I also have InfusionSoft for some of my larger scale stuff.

I'm involved in a project that may call for a "self hosted" AR solution. This self hosted solution would need to work much like Aweber and GR in that it should handle miltiple lists, offer auto responders/email sequencing, broadcasting, web forms, etc.

Any of my other Warriors using such a solution with satisfaction?

I know many solutions exist - but also know most are garbage.

So I'm looking for a GOOD ONE someone uses, cost not being a factor.

Best

Self-hosted wins anyday over 3rd party!

    1) Get arpReach - autoresponder and email marketing software

    2) Get smtp.com (which allows you to send thousands of emails via their reliable, high-delivery SMTP service. This way you don't have to send through your host. Hence never have to worry about being suspended.)

    There!

Solution 100x better then all the Aweber, Mailchimp, iContact gramophones... yet noone knows about it. Simply because most are sheeps, repeating what they've heard from other sheeps.

Another vote for arp reach but I prefer to use sendgrid.com as smtp relay. Just a personal preference.

    Arp Reach eh?

Okay.... One question: I'm technically savy but tell me... deliverability depends much on the IP, yes?

I have a dedicated server, so the balls to run a self hosted platform are there. Having said that, Neil, what's the BEST way to get the BEST deliverability possible (maybe as good as or better than GR and Aweber)?

Maybe a dedicated IP through my server? Or, would you still use something like SMTP.COM?

Yes. Dedicated IP, rDNS, SPF, Domainkeys and some other optimization improves deliverability from script.

An auto-responder service is better IMO. The keyword here is deliverability. A self hosted app will be limited to the amount of emails you can send per hour/day. For example I contacted one of my shared hosting providers, and they would only deliver 600 emails per hour. So I asked about a VPS or dedicated server and still, they were limited and of course the price went up massively.

But lets say you have Aweber, you can create a series of emails, and every signup will receive those messages. On top of that, you can send broadcast messages and they will be sent out straight away. If you have 5000 people on a list, then a 600 email limit is pointless, and those broadcast messages wouldn't even get through. I would email some hosts to ask about their limits when sending emails from their servers. I enquired about doing this very thing and the costs just didn't work.

I haven't thought of the smpt service above before, that might be the solution. There is still a monthly charge attached plus the cost of the script if its a paid one. I would add them both up to work out which ones more cost effective. I do like the idea of having my list hosted on my own server in case something happens, so that is definitely a plus point.

Arpreach is $195 / $395, then there is the $5 pm / $240 pm charge for the SMTP service by the looks of it.

Aweber is $194 for 12 months plus a monthly charge for having over 500 subscribers.
