Can you do this? Internet Marketing for Keynote Speakers

Hey guys I'm a keynote speaker and corporate entertainer and I also train other entertainers/speakers on ways to get more gigs...but I have a question.

If you had to book speaking engagements for a keynote speaker for $10,000 and up using internet marketing techniques, then what would you do?

Right now I help speakers and entertainers with more coaching rather than doing services for them but I was considering the idea of starting a full service where we book the events for them.

I have an internet marketing guy on my team who builds the websites and he can do PPC but if you had to book a keynote speaker some shows for 10k and up, then what would you do?

Isn't a lot of that stuff done through agents and recommendations, etc? Do people really just go searching the Internet looking for keynote speakers? That's the first thing I would research.

I book my events because I've built up a network.

But I also book some events through event planners. My most recent one was a couple days ago from an agent for an event in Finland.

I'm asking because a lot of the entertainers and speakers I coach have a hard time implementing the things that will get them booked because they're not really "business" people. So I figured I would just get them gigs in a proactive manner and take a percentage.

Think more along the lines of the music industry rather than a normal speaker bureau/agency.

But for this to work, it would have to be online techniques like PPC, SEO, etc.

I personally wouldn't be doing it, I would hire people to do it but I need to know how the internet marketing aspect would work...because setting up a landing page with a free offer, etc won't get a speaker a 10k engagement.

      The more specific, the better

I only said what I said above because I know people who do emcee work and they get most of their work through referrals, repeat business, or agents.

I am also a musician and played in several bands doing the usual pub rounds, etc and most of the bands doing those rounds were all with booking agents who would get them all the gigs. The pubs knew to go to the booking agents if they ever needed bands. From what I've seen it's been the same type of experience in emceeing.

So that's why I brought that up. In these types of industries it always seems to be a lot more about who you know and not what you know.

I am sure the odd person does scour the Internet looking for these types of things but I don't think it would/should necessarily be a big part of your marketing plan. But again, I am just going off my experience in these other markets.

    Hi,

I've worked for professional speakers for 17 years. Internet marketing has not worked well to get gigs but it has worked well to sell books, audio, etc. My SEO work has brought in paid gigs but only one or two a year (which more than paid for my yearly fees). The others come from referrals, speaker bureaus, word of mouth and publicity. The speaker has to have an active blog, post frequently to social media, write articles, etc. This builds the platform that creates the buzz.
