Best Security Seals to Use?

I'm about to start selling a small digital product, and wondering what are the best security seals available to use that are cost effective... (seals that let visitors know you're a legit seller to increase conversions).

List any good ones you know and have used will be very helpful.

thanks!

    Hello,

It is important to mention that there are different kinds of seals.

Some are provided only after your sites checks out clean from malware, blacklisting, etc.
Others validate the identity of the site's owner and the security level of the actual site as well.

So it really depends on what level of "clearance" you are trying to achieve.

    good luck

      Hi.

I'm aware their are different ones for different reasons... some with guarantees on the purchase, some for security of the site etc etc...

The purpose of this thread is just to list any and all you know ..... I can sort through them later and figure out which one(s) I need.

I think this would be helpful to all.

So, please contribute any you know that would be helpful!

      Thanks

Most security seals these days are more about the money you pay than how legitimate a seller you are. I never even think twice when I see those seals since I know they can all just be bought. It definitely doesn't make the seller anymore reputable to me... but that's just my opinion.

Go to the checkout pages of big companies and see what seals they are using.

Some of the more popular and reputable ones are:

    - McAfee
    - Verisign

      Hey.

      Thanks Will, I agree.

But you have to remember, me and you are season'd internet marketers, most buyers don't have 1% of the knowledge we have.

I know I probably sound crazy, but for a small report that's $12, do you think a security seal is even a huge deal? (I suppose not, but just want to make sure all my bases are covered)

      thanks

Personally I wouldn't bother for something like that. I think there are better trust elements you can use.

        1. Nice clean and professional page design and graphics.

        2. Real testimonials and case studies.

          Hello,

seals don't rate the seller and/or the product... They guarantee some kind of security.

Being in security field for many years now, i prefer Entrust (Symantec now) seals, because they offer two factor validation (sites owner and actual website security). Entrust is very respectable/known security company for certificates and seals.

there are others: McAfee, SiteLock, Qualys, Trust-Guard, etc.

Unfortunately, none of these guarantee any kind of security for online purchase...

If I'm selling the product through paypal, technically I don't need anything else right? Though I could still use a seal to make them feel secure...

Doesn't paypal use verisign and ssl 256 security etc?

No one is going to purchase your product or even get to your order page unless you have established some trust and authority in the actual sales message.

As for the checkout and purchase process, it depends who you use for that. If you are using Paypal then they are already very well known. If you are using services such as Clickbank, they already have their own trust and security seals on their checkout pages.

I am talking about the actual sales page. No one is even going to bother looking for trust seals or any of the other stuff unless they are interested in purchasing. So make sure you have your own trust and proof elements their first.

Cannot disagree with this... and dont really get whats the argument about

The point I was trying to make is that security seals don't endorse products...
Their purpose is to endorse some kind of security level of the ecommerce site...that's all!!!

I posted the results of a multivariate test I did with this a few days ago, it might interest you:

Long story short - the FREE trust badges actually converted better than the paid ones. Full breakdown in the other thread.

Hey, this was interesting... I gave you a thanks in the other thread.

I saw that the cost of that item was $99 power tool.. (just my guess, guys 30 to 55 years old, a lot with limited knowledge of buying online, or "low information users", as you call them).

So basically, I think with a $12 product, and just having the paypal seal it'll have basically the same effect .

Though I guess it probably wouldn't hurt to just paste the image on the site.. But like I said, this was interesting none the less.

      Thanks

        Correct.

It's really something that needs to be tested in your own market because different groups of people will react differently to those types of things.

You failed to disclose that you own the site that won your test (or "test").

As I mentioned already in the other thread, I don't own the site that was tested, and testing the trust badges was the entire point. Of the four, my company owned one of them (and so there was no bias in the test, it was always tested along side another free one). No links, no "you should sign up for this" - just sharing the results of a long-running test, all using trust badges that are at least 3 years old. What is it you're trolling for anyway?

Seeing a seal on a sales page for a digital product does not influence me one way or the other to buy.

Unless the message you are giving in your sales page keeps me interested I probably wont even see them as I'll leave before I reach the bottom of the page where they are usually placed
