First of all, what online business? What are you planning on doing? Do you have a plan?

I would advise you if I knew what you wanted to do. Are you going to be creating a service, affiliate marketing, list building, infoproduct creation???

To your first place to start, is to create a plan, and some goals....

I agree with Martin here. It's kinda hard to tell you what you need unless we all know what your ACTUAL plan and direction is with your online business. There are so many options and roads you could take and the advice anyone gives you needs to be specific to your personal plans.

You will need a website, hosting, perhaps an autoresponder to collect leads.
Some kind of traffic strategy to get visitors to your site.

Mmmm don't make the newbie mistake to treat this internet thing like a game. This is not a game even if it's fun.. it's a business and to run a business you need a business plan... there are hundreds of models you can chose for making money online, just get information, decide which model you prefer and then stick to it.

Study and learn all you can about that single model and master it. After you start seeing some success with that then it may be the right time to start a new one...

But really it's so easy to get confused and overwhelmed here...

Talking about models I mean e-commerce, blogs, media buying, list building, youtube marketing, social media marketing, bum marketing.. etc etc etc....

Several models, all of them can be successful... just chose one and master it!

Because you are in NY, Google the term, NY OPAL and you will get the New York Online Permit Assistance portal.

This will help walk you through the various New York State laws you will need to comply with to run your business and keep the tax man happy.

You need hosting for starters check out HostGator, they have a coupon to start for a dollar 99HOSTINGNOW.

I would highly recommend staying away from GoDaddy, people have lots of problems with this. Just do a Google.

If you need a domain name check out NameCheap. They also have free privacy guards with every purchase.

Check out a site like Legal Zoom and setup a LLC. That will also be needed.

Once you get your LLC you will have an EIN.

Then you will be a business as far as USA is concerned?

What are your specific goal of your business.

First things first:
What online business? Too many people venture online and delude themselves into thinking they are running an online business, when in actual fact, nothing could be further from the truth. So, the first step is to be humble enough to admit you haven't a ficken clue how to set up or run an online business. It takes education, experience, persistence and results.

Second things second:
If you're planning to sell stuff online, you'll need a home base where people can reach, interact and buy from you. Domain, hosting, website, content and a step by step strategy.

Third thing last:
If you plan on communicating via the written word to your audience/prospect/customer/whatever, make sure you have an English native write your content for you.

First thing you need is a plan. Once you figure out what you want to do online find others who are doing the same thing as you and learn as much as possible from them.

It takes time, there is no magic button but there are lots of people out there willing to sell you one

If I understand correctly and you want your own site, then I have written a free detailed guide on how to start a website from scratch. It is for beginners like yourself. Just go through that. In my experience I'd suggest Hostgator as being the best, however Hostmoster is okay if you have a smaller, less complex site.

You can start and online business with nothing but a sig link here on the Warrior Forum and a free blogger blog!

If you can't afford a domain and hosting then put together a service you can offer such as building links, social media tasks, or designing graphics.

Put together a small description of your service and then some examples on the blogger page and continue to post relevent and interesting posts here on the forum.

Once you have some orders then list it as a service here for $20 to get more orders.

You can also do this on Fiverr
Other forums and other gig sites

To have a online business creating your email list is a MUST! You will need 3 items...

1. Domain Name
2. Hosting
3. Auto Respsonder

Once you have these 3 items - then you want either create a one page website, blog, or both - then have a free gift to offer your future visitors in exchange for their email address.

Then once they opt in you will give them valuable information on a weekly basis - and promote products sparingly for them to buy.
