Possible duplicate content issue if using a Wordpress blog.

The way I understand the whole duplicate content issue is that it means content that is duplicated within your own website.

Well, if your Wordpress blog is anything like mine then you may have a duplicate content issue. I never realized this before but if you post an entire article on your home page it is also posted to its own single page. Is this considered duplicate content on your Wordpress blog?

Depending how often you post to your blog you could have a duplicate content issue for awhile. I only have three full length articles on my home page so once I make that fourth post the duplicate content is gone. Or is it?

What happens when you hit the next page button at the bottom of the home page. It brings up another page with that same article. Now there are three articles on this page just like the home page where as on the single page post there is only one article. So is this considered duplicate content?

If this is a problem as I believe it is, does anyone here have any solutions?

Thanks,
Jeff Sargent

Given more than one page on your blog with content related to the search keywords, a search engine will display the page which has the most inbound links.

Any content on your blog home page will almost always show up first in the SE's because the home page has the most links pointing to it (i.e. any post appearing on the home page will get higher rankings than the individual post page) - as soon as the post content is shunted off the home page by your newer posts, you'll lose the ranking position for those keywords.

That is why it is so important to also get inbound links to individual post pages if you want to maintain the good rankings. Often a good internal linking structure will be enough for long tail keywords.

It's also important to limit what the search engines can index by using a robots.txt file - otherwise you'll end up with category, tag or rss feeds being displayed instead of individual posts.

Thanks Colin as everything in this quote was my next concern. But you must be a mind reader because you already answered my next question.
