My question to you would be what is your plan with the CHEAP traffic?

If you want the visitor to do something positive on your website then you are off to a bad start. Cheap traffic is cheap traffic. It's like "Garbage in Garbage Out."

You want to seek quality traffic at an affordable price. Convert those traffic into a meaningful action on your website - to earn money, etc, etc.

I believe this is one off case.
Most of us don't have good results from adf.ly.
There will be opt-ins, but conversion is low. REAL Low.

There are two schools of thought :
1. Responsive Lists: Quality over Quantity.
Lists are built over time through relationship. Offer value to subscribers.
Usually are free: Forum marketing, blogging, articles, etc

2. Massive Lists: Quantity over Quality.
Not concerned over the traffic sources. Converting based on quantity masses.
Useful for very big niches such as MMO.
Usually are paid traffic, solo ads, ad swap, free solo ads,

It really doesn't matter which method you believe in.
BOTH WORKS!!

You just need to know how to execute it consistently.

Albeit with some reservations, I admit I'm intrigued enough to ask: why would anyone want to build a list from "untargeted traffic"?

I am doing a cheap way to drive traffic to my wordpress based product review site in gaming niche. I am driving traffic from tumblr site, so only tumblr user will visit my site, of course the downside of my method is the limitation of where the visitor. But in the brighter side, I can generate up to 1000 unique targeted visitor from my 800 follower of my tumblr account.

Cheap Traffic equals cheap results I'm afraid.

Build up your list with Solo Ads, Forum Marketing, Facebook, or PPC.

I have recently tested ad.fly and I was quite surprised with the number of list opt-ins you can get from spending a few dollars. However, I have a feeling that even though they are real human visitors, it seems to be fairly non-responsive.
This could take some tweaking with creating the perfect squeeze page as you only have five seconds to capture their attention.
If you want quality, purchase some solo ads from the warriors for hire section and you can still find some great cheap traffic with Bing Ads.

a lot of it depends on what niche you are in

i also tried ad fly a while back and i have to admit it's the worst traffic source i have ever used

the traffic is so untargeted and complete garbage

i would rather invest in $25 for a solo ad to get targeted traffic then to spend $5 - $7 for 10k clicks to my squeeze page to only get 5 opt ins or something

if you are looking for good traffic sources then consider solo ads. You can have traffic going to your squeeze page in a matter of hours

There are plenty of places to get cheap traffic. But is the traffic any good?

Facebook is a great source for cheap traffic. I'm talking penny clicks of .01 and .02 per click if you know what you're doing
