best way to monetize a viral type site?

Ok so I have this idea I'm thinking of launching...

This is basically going to be a wordpress site that posts a photo every day and has a poll under each photo....users will vote on each photo and then have the opportunity to share what they did.

There will be an option for users to submit their own photos to be voted upon as well....well basicall a "Submit" page that says email any picture you want us to post with bla bla details, written permission etc.


My queston is this....what's the best monetization method? PPC? CPA?

some kind of opt in? My only thing is I think this traffic will just be so varied and different....the concept is so simple I'm thinking that I should probably build it, use PPC to start and just really work on making it go viral. Then I can sell that puppy later

    For those types of sites, I would go with Google Ads. (PPC)

    Those sites particularly get lots of short-term traffic. What I mean by short term is a person may spend less than 1-3 mins. on the site.

    When you start getting high traffic/earnings you can easily sell it on flippa.

      That's definitely what I was leaning towards. I may or may not do the launch. The catchy domain name that apply to the site idea is available, I'm just questioning if I want to spend the time building/developing/growing it.

      I really think it has potential, but at the same time....not really sure. It would be a heh, this is a funny site maybe I'll rate some pictures and then go...I mean combined with twitter and facebook pages I could probably generate some ype of leads to an aweber list....maybe market some products that way in combination with the PPC but I'm just not sure lol

      Google ads work best when there is content on the page and the ads can then be more targeted to the content on the page.

      If all you have is random images on the site and very little content then the ads will not be very targeted and won't get clicked very much.

        Girls on the site post their own pictures. Dont think the site is monitized yet. Maybe ad sense. But im sure 6drip owner is focusing on building up memberships and value before he trys to monitize.

    For those types of website i recommend to go with CPA because polling is just like action by a traffics and also if you embedded a correct CPA offer to your website therefore awesome huge income stream you could get without doubt and it's works like charm.

    you should develop the idea of submitting picture and gets voted with more specific subs topics of photo submission. For example, a pet photo, a girl photo, a man photo, a scenery photo, etc. And how about the copyrighted photo, have you think about that? who will own the photo in the end. I think adsense is a good way to drive income for you.

      The idea is very very specific, I'm just not posting it here so no body steals it though.

      I'm debating whether or not I want to SPEND the TIME.

      If I decide that I don't want to, I'll post the idea for somebody else to play with!

    You could also have some sort of sign-up process so you can capture email addresses and build a list - maybe that goes without saying. Anyway, if you do that, you'll need to provide your list with great value when you mail to them. Once you have a relationship of trust with those who signed up, you can send them relevant offers from time to time.

      What if I had no idea who the traffic was though? I mean I guess if I offer something and they sign up I know the general interest....

      This whole site was more of a set and forget type deal so I may not go through. Im really debating if I want to buy the domain or not haha cause I have monthly hosting that I pay for with host gator that's not being used right now. So...tryin to think of something! I really need to update that to pay yearly so I stop getting ripped off every month but hey I'm not worried about it for right now

        You need to stop focusing on how you monitize your site before you even made the big picture ,you have a decent idea tho. (Remember a million dollars aint cool, you kno whats cool a billion dollars). But i see what your saying tho you dont kno who to market to. clealy this is a site you would be interseted in ,thats your target audience. What sites do you go on? What websites do you like? thats where you should start. I know of sites with traffic that would go crazy for a site like this for free to and defintaly get you hype you need ,from the other social networks. I would help you but you gotta take the first step and actully make the site:p. But some advice dont try to hard to work on monitzing your frontend of the site thats what your traffic will see. Feel me? Whats better than going on a site you love that makes you laugh and has no ads? Nothing lol. Im also good at making nice monitized backends to. Its all about thinking outside the box. But none of this matters if you dont do it. Good luck to whatever you do

    This will not be my first site I know HOW to make a website lol so that's not what's stopping me. I never spend any time at all on the type of site im talking about making, unless you count instagram, which I still spend very little time on.

    Other people looooveee the type of site though...Im just not sure if it will be worth my time. Like I said I think it has potential but then again...who knows.

    Matter of fact, I don't really spend time on any sites other than my own, forums related to my current niche, this one, google adwords, analytics and webmaster tools lol

      yeah i wouldnt even kno where to begin developing this site. But your right you would have to offer something kinda different from istagram/fb that would keep people coming back. If you have killer idea i say try it

    instead of being stingy Im just gonna toss the idea out there and see if anyone wants to JV....or If I dont act fast enough flat out steal my idea....if it makes you a million....cheers!

    And it's simple.....a picture is posted daily with the poll:

    Hit It! or Forget It!

    Comments on the posts, buttons for social media sharing, etc.....facebook fan page....twitter account...instagram.....of course lol


    There would be

    Hit or Forget for Her

    Hit or Forget for Him


    And one section is girl pics, one is guys.


    Submit your photo section ..... want to know how many people would 'hit' or 'forget' you? bla bla


    My only issue is 1. getting the first pictures to put up


    2. how do you keep people coming back (PPC site anyway? who cares if they bounce?)

    3. What the hell kinda list can you build from that

    3.2. where would the traffic come from?

    4. is that worth my time lol

    I've had the exact site running for the past few months and I wish my problem was "how to monetize it" -- my problem has been getting traffic to the site and this is despite having made a corresponding FB page for the site, naming the FB page after the site's name and linking both to each other.

    At first I was so excited about the idea but when realised getting traffic to it is not as easy as I thought, I've lost my interest in it - the surprising thing is no one is bothered to click my site's URL from my FB page!

    Having said that, part of problem may be due to me not having sufficient number of friends or likes in my FB account - if you have tons of friends then you may be more successful than I have been -- my big big problem has always been, once my plans don't go according to plan I give up completely despite having done all the hard work to lay the foundation - damn me I hate myself for that.

      Yeah, glad I didn't buy the domain. Right away I was like "where is traffic gonna come from...what the hell keywords am I gonna target?"


      It has potential, just not something I care enough to build from the ground up...cause I don't got friends like that lol. If you got a site like that up though, maybe make a twitter account and just follow mad people and hope for RT's....dick ride for RT's do whatever you gotta do to drive traffic to your site... I think the best method with this would be PPC for sure. Maybeeeeeeeee CPA just maybe...


      And don't be so hard on yourself. Never say you hate your self. You realize you have a problem...that's good....it's a human thing not a 'you' thing.....so the difference is do you be liek the successful and say f that, im gonna change and do what I gotta do, or do you wallow in sorrow?!?!?!

        lol basically this without the dudes sections kinda. swear i had the same idea before i even found out bout that site to fml. This guys on youtube thats how he promotes this but i had some ideas for traffic. college/related forums(free)maybe 4chan or something like dat would be a good place to start(guys on 4chan like to roast people so im sure they would enjoy the site idk tho), possibly some adult pop unders( sure they would love a site with sexy chicks and where they can vote on them)really cheap traffic to, and make sure you have fb/twitter intergation to get the word out. Also 6drip on alexa has their audience demographic which you can easily target on Pof ads( for some good targeted traffic for cheap)also check compete .com and you can probley check incoming links and backlinks and see where the traffics from. Sure if you put all these sources to use you would get enough traffic to get started.thats all i got for now.im out for now peace

      Yo never give up no matter how much you fail, the only thing those failures should be showing you is whats not working. Just like with online advertising you dont pay for advertising just to see if you make your money back, you pay for data,then you use that data to see what works and make a profit. Feel me?

    Your biggest difficulty will be get that initial burst of traffic it's difficult to see what your keywords would be or how to pin down your audience it's just to genuine.

    If you can get the traffic there are plenty of ways to cash in adsense cpa and selling ad space come to mind

    Interesting to know I'm not the only one who had this idea...not hard to believe though.

    That 6drip site was ok, but I wonder where they get their pictures? Also...I didn't stay long but I din't even see how they had monetized it? Maybe it wasnt lol
