Hello fellow warriors,
I have encountered many opinions regarding the use of pen-names in your marketing campaigns.
I i'm israeli so my name is not as catchy as an american name may be so that's one reason for me to use a pen name.
Also, i think it just feels safer.
On the other hand, if you want to build a rapport with your subscribers/customers/etc.. you may feel better using your real name...

what do you think?

My first site I used my real name, even in the brand/domain name. Wish I didn't lol but it's cool, probably will pay off in the long run.

My next site, however....I will be trying to stay more anonymous. I mean...I'll be legit and genuine....but...I'm not using my real name lol if a name even has to be used!

Why do you wish you didn't?
is it an amusing story or a sad one?

Neither haha...it's because I'm an anti-social and shy hermit lol and I hate putting my self out there like I have to with my particular niche...

Would've probably been easier to hide behind a "brand name" but it's whatever. I'll get over it.

It depends on the niche. In my MMORPG sites and lists, I'm just Rogue.

    I think it matters...

But I also think it's easy to get caught out which can become a bit of a hassle or embarrassment.

Say Clickbank (for example) asks you to disclose that your using a pen name on the sales page. If someone reads that little comment saying Barry White or whatever is actually a pseudonym then I reckon any trust immediately vanishes.

Or you use a pen name and then use PayPal as your payment processor and mentions your real name on the receipt. It does depend on the account you actually have.

If your name was Peter James McDuddlebug or something then you could (maybe) drop your last name and sign off 'Peter James' or become PJ McDuddlebug.

Just ideas. Or use your nickname. Doberman Dan springs to mind.
