Blogging -- good way to start?

First, thank you, everyone, for all the great advice given here.

Second, I am still reading, learning, exploring tutorials, making lists, making plans....

Of course, there is a lot of conflicting information "out there". I'm sure that is because there are so many different ways to become successful online.

One thing I do keep running across, though, is the idea that blogging can bring in a fairly steady stream of income as long as one is diligent at it. I'm trying to figure a way to best take advantage of my love for writing, and I seem to keep coming back to blogging.

My current thoughts are to start a blog, or perhaps several, each on a focused niche. Write from my heart, enjoy what I do, and add potential monetizing aspects to the blog. I'd then work article marketing into the blogging plans (though there is also a lot of somewhat conflicting advice on article marketing, and I think the best I've read so far is the information included in the new users' section of Warriorforums). Perhaps, once there is a "resume of clips", so to speak, to offer potential clients, I would then branch out to offering my services as a writer to others who prefer not to write their own copy.

I'm really just posting here to see if any blatant errors jump out as you skim through the general plan of attack above.

My thinking is that it lets me start doing "something" right away while I continue to learn and get my feet progressively more wet in the world of online marketing for writers.

Thoughts?

    Hey,

Most everyone uses WordPress if they host their own site (I'm sure you knew that already). Plugins are a very useful tool to use. They are easy to integrate with WP and they leverage so much power! I would suggest looking into the All-in-one SEO plugin, as well as the Google XML Sitemap plugin. Those are a decent start (without giving away my entire system). Pretty much anything you want to do with blogging can be done with WordPress and/or a plugin. Just Google search what you want the ability to do followed by the words "wordpress plugin" (e.g. "rotate banner ads wordpress plugin").

You're close enough to get started Maj - I would stop looking for approval and support at this point and just get rolling.

You do want to develop a plan for monetization - assume that over the next few months you are able to gain a solid core of active, loyal followers who really begin to see you as the "go to" guy for your market - what sorts of products and services could you offer them to help them out?

Don't let that stop you from getting started, but begin that exercise of planning how you will make money with your blog as it grows in popularity.

It's not a bad idea to come up with a giveaway to your marketplace as well and start a list so that you can funnel your top 10-15 of eager readers into a sales funnel for either affiliate products or your own products.

I just started a blog for to see If I can increase traffic to my website. I installed WP 2.7 and just have 2 posts up. I like th look of the blog so much more than the site that I want to convert the rest of the site to look like the blog theme or template that I'm using.

Is there an easy way to do that. I did copy the content from a page ande pasted it in 'New Page' section to see how that would be, but it takes some time to get things to look right.

It seems that WP thinks it knows better than me how things should look. For example, when I try to put a couple of spaces betwqeem text or images, they just don't show up.

One more thing. There are links on the navigation collumn on hte right that I'm not sure if it's safe to remove or change them. If it's safe, how do I change them?

Sounds like a good plan Maj, one thing I just want to make sure you know is that BLOGGING IS A LONG TERM TECHNIQUE TO EARNING MONEY, sorry I had to bold that just incase any other people thought blogging could make you some quick cash.

One thing you pointed out was making several blogs, instead I would just concentrate on the one blog. Over a longer period of time this will generate more income and you will realise that you would have only had the time to keep one blog going eventually anyways.

I would advise you to go for the Wordpress Blogging Platform, research your niche, do your keyword research, find a keyword rich domain name ensure you have picked the right keywords to target and keep researching and analysing until you are 100% happy with everything you have picked.

I would like to direct you to a 70 page Ebook that I wrote on my blog (signature) it is called "11 Things to consider before you Start Blogging" and basically takes a detailed look at several mistakes I made in the first stages of my blogging career, its worth a read and hopefully will help you out.

If you go to my blog and subscribe you will receive the Ebook totally free as well as receiving my SEO Ebook, Keyword Research Ebook and my Article Marketing Ebook.

I see opinions are as varied on this as on anything else, but there is much to learn from everyone's advice.

    Thank you!

Andrew, thank you for the tip about developing or selecting a product. That is something I've been thinking about, making lists, etc. on for a couple of days. Since my "product" has always been writing, I've been viewing websites and blogs that are created by writers. Some of them are very clever and engaging, and have given me some interesting ideas.
