Directory pricing problem

Hi,

My directory website is still largely empty, is it possible to make premium listings free for x amount of time until the website is off the ground then ask for money when the free period has ended? I'm worried nobody will pay after the free period.

I'm interested to know if this a common problem and whether or not there is an easy way around it.

Thanks,

iPete

Sorry to make the question simpler, how do you say to customers who you've given free premium listings that there is now an annual price?

Any help would be hugely appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Pete

Unless you are an extraordinary backlink, you don't and if you tried, expect pretty much everyone not to pay.
If you want to start charging, only do it for new listings.

Yeah that's a hard one unless you site is highly viewed or have a high pr no one will pay. I'd say really work to get the PR up and Alexa up on the site then you'll get willing people that wil pay.

Don't bother with monetizing your site
    unless It is really good!!

Facebook only start monetizing after a long while.

The last thing you want to do is to scare your visitors off with banners/ pop-up.

As for premium listing, I won't be bothered with that.
Try to make your site popular 1st.
