Best way to utilize programming skill?

I am getting pretty familiar with Java and Jsoup (web scraping library)

I already made a program that takes a list of keywords and shows how many results each one has (exact match)

Can anybody think of the best way for me to leverage my programming skill? A lot of people on here are strictly businessmen, but I want to use my technical abilities as well

Some ideas I've had:

  • Creating and selling a scraping/data collection program
  • Using such a program for my own benefit (finding good keywords etc)
  • Creating a website that performs the scraping service (get traffic/visitors, possibly monetize)
What are your ideas for this? If you had a strong background in programming, how would you utilize it? I have heard of people wanting to collect h1/h2 data for certain keywords... I can definitely do this but I don't know exactly what I would do with the data


In short-- my technical skills are good, but I am not sure how to leverage them for financial gain. Please give me your ideas! Also if there's enough demand, I might make some small web-scraping programs.

    Hi aguirren,

    I'm new here ... just signed up. I am a programmer myself but mainly specialise in web development. Though I do use java occasionally, I only use it for GUI based applications. Ironic I know since I am a web developer.

    I do have an idea in mind. This is something that I have been thinking of doing myself but haven't really had the motivation, nor have I had the time (in last semester of computing masters).

    You could always find people needing these services on craigslist, fiverr, freelancer, odesk ect

      I am having trouble finding these... Searching "web scraping" / webscraper doesn't yield many results at all. Any suggestions?
