How effective YouTube is marketing?

I noticed that many people are doing Amazon products reviews on YouTube, especially mobile phones, and post Amazon affiliate links directly in video description.

I was wondering, do these people actually make any sales, and how effective is YouTube marketing today for these things?

Youtube marketing can be a fast way to get traffic. If you can get traffic to your videos you will be doing better than posting website content.

I created lots of tube videos already and I continue to upload at least 10 videos a week. I did never put much effort into video marketing though, in terms of testing and tweaking.

But I know that it is responsible for 5% of my traffic which makes it worthwile for me and I know that it is making me some sales. And remember that I just upload these videos without taking anyfurther action, I basically just leave them there.

I am pretty sure that there are others out there pulling huge numbers with video marketing because the potential is there.

The cool thing is that these videos, even the older ones, still bring me traffic each day. It's not much but who cares. Making a short video takes less then 30 minutes.

Good question, I have wondered also. It can be quite time consuming to make a video so you have to have a worthwhile product to market.

Youtube is very effective. Stay away from "article videos". Have your real face on there and deliver your content, with a link back to your site.

It is a quick way to get around Google's SE rules. IMHO, this loophole is not going to last very long.

Yes, it is, people are more convinced with videos rather than an article. nowadays, more and more people are maybe too lazy to read text and choose to view videos instead. to make an effective video marketing, remember to ping it each time you upload a video. youtube will crawl a video faster with a proper keyword too.

We cannot ignore that Youtube is the 2nd largest Search Engine after Google.

I usually use Youtube for affiliate products promotion. I just create a simple powerpoint presentation based videos with affiliate product information. then upload them on youtube and other video sharing websites with the websites link or the affiliate link in the description.

It really helped me in driving some good amount of traffic that converted into sales.

It depends on the product, the competition and also the keywords.
The video must be followed by marketing rules, AIDA ( attention, Interest, desire, action)

Not only does Youtube bring a huge amount of traffic to your website, it builds a strong online reputation of your brand or for yourself.
Make viral videos, and you will know the effectiveness of the second largest search engine.

Just think about it, even if you don't get your video ranked on google for your keyword you will still get a trickle of traffic from youtube itself since it has so many people. I have gotten many sales and leads within youtube itself without having anything to do with ranking on google.

To be fair my videos could have ranked for long tail keywords i had no idea about, but you get my point.

I think that we're living in a very visual age and people respond very well to video. I can't remember off the top of my head but isn't YouTube classed the second largest search engine?

A word of caution, though, if you're considering using YouTube to make Amazon product review videos and include Amazon links. I was reading the other day about a number of people who have had their videos removed and some had their accounts closed for making Amazon affiliate videos. Apparently it's actually against Amazon's ToS. Not being an Amazon affiliate myself or having personal experience in this area I can't say this authoritatively, but it might be worth checking up on this first before having a nasty surprise later

*Edit: Just found a thread on the WF about this very subject
