Domain Name Question..

Hi everyone, I have recently purchased 2 domain names; cookingvideorecipes.com & howtolearntocook.com. Right now I am working on building my newsletter and soon to start creating a membership site where I will offer cooking video lessons, recipes, etc. Which domain name in your opinion should I use? Any suggestion is greatly appreciated. Thank you..

I think the first one best suits.

I like the first one because it's specific in telling the potential visitor the format to expect. Even though the name, in itself, doesn't imply that they'll find lessons, someone who's looking to learn how to cook rather than looking just for recipes may still be inclined to visit because they may feel that they can learn a lot from watching video demonstrations

The first one if you are going to use a lot of videos, otherwise I like the second one better.

      second domain for sure...
      first go to https://adwords.google.com/o/KeywordTool
then set match type to exact and type 'cooking video recipes' in word or phrase field ,it has 140 exact monthly searches and then type
'how to learn to cook' it has 260 exact monthly searches. and 170 local US searches. which is far better then that of first domain.

You could maybe use both to begin with, and test to see which one is more effective. Then setup a permanent redirect to the one you choose.

Though I agree the first is more suited to your plans. Also it flows slightly better and is easier to say than the second domain.

How to learn to cook gets 50% more searches on exact match search and should be easy to rank for especially if you use the term in Title and description

If we take in consideration what google loves ... the second one... but honestly as a customer the first one would give me a clearer idea of what i can expect... and of course then you should give them a lot of videos

has to be option one for me. If you're going to be offering videos, then its really helpful to have that in your title because my guess is people looking to learn how to cook will google "videos" and want video format so they can watch and follow..

Stop registering domain names based around keywords.

It's a total waste of time.

    Start building brands.

Think long term instead of chasing these silly "shortcuts" that don't even work anyway.

you should have built something like dancookingrecipes or simply danreceipes or your name receipes .com and build a brand. Remember your users will want to tell other users about it and it would be quite easy for them to tell others visit dan's site rather than visit howtocookvideo etc.

If you can go for another domain name with your name.

    Regards,

Using your name is okay, so long as you have no intention of onselling. If ever you decide to sell, you make it hard for buyers when you're own name is plastered all over it, or used as part of the brand or marketing strategy.

It's a personal decision - I understand that, but I always say, register a domain that is generic in nature, that allows for your business to evolve.

I like the first one buddy, Video is so much easier to watch and learn from... and copy, then just reading etc... it implies simplicity

    Best of luck!

I like the first one better.

But it does not matter which one you use. The most important thing is how you structure your website, the effectiveness of your sales letter, the videos that you provide your buyers, the effectiveness of your follow up, the effectiveness of your upsell, graphics, etc.

Your domain name does not mean anything unless you have all these in place.

I like the first one. Tells them exactly what they are in for. You should later come up with a brand name because if/when this gets big, you'll be in a position where you can either take it bigger or sell it for xxx,xxx or x,xxx, xxx.

The first one is terrible. The second one leaves a lot to be desired, but will do if your back is against the wall.

I'd go back to the drawing board and continue brainstorming.
