Hi Guys

In the last few weeks i have deleted over 500 subscribers from my list.

These were all subscribers that had not opened an email for over six months or subscribers that i gained through junk sites such as adfly,Clicksense etc

What is the most subscribers you have deleted and why?

Be careful who you delete, I have heard that a lot of opens are not recorded as such if they are on mobiles.

I deleted over 4,000. They were all subscribers who didn't open an email for the past month. They were costing me money so I had to cut them.

        4000 is lot to delete.
Out of curiously, what is your traffic sources for
        these subscribers?

I also delete some of my subscribers
after at least 20-25 email follow-ups.

I wait for 30 follow ups too... 4000 is a huge number... quite strange if you are getting the leads from a quality traffic source...

I deleted around 900. I built the list in a month using one of my YouTube traffic methods.

Only problem is my leads were not targeted and at the time, I didn't want to pay the extra 20 a month with Aweber to host them. I also didn't understand the concept of "building a relationship with my list.

I made a quick $248 with a clickbank product but I eventually saw my numbers dip and spam complaints rise. I realized my mistake and deleted the list.

    My Mistake:
I built a list giving away something that had nothing to do with making money online. This is why I got the spam complaints. I didn't want to risk Aweber suspending my account so I just decided to delete the list altogether...

NOW HERE'S THE WORD FROM AWEBER

I called aweber to ask them if they could delete subscribers from my list who had not opened emails for a while. He showed me how to do it but also explained to me that all opens and subscribes weren't recorded for 2 reasons.

    1. People opening emails on smart phones - they don't register as opens when opened in text..

    2. Subscribers who don't have "view all pictures" activated.

Conclusion I came up with is to in every first few emails, include a picture of some sort and tell you subscribers to click the "Always show pictures" link at the top to see the cool picture.

This because I learned this after building my main lists, I haven't been able to effectively test it but this came from the Aweber techs so I'm taking it and run with it

I usually don't delete non-openers...rather I delete obvious spam accounts... 2348902834028@hotmail.com for instance... or no@way.com etc

It's always best to delete the people who do not open your emails because doing so saves you both money and frustration and it's better to put your focus on building a relationship with the people who are opening your emails.

I've had people who don't open emails for a month or two (they may be away on holidays, life got in the way, whatever) and then they open an email and buy. I don't go deleting people just because they don't open an email for a month.

What a lot of marketers say is, hey, all of these people have not opened an email in the last month, let's just delete them.

Why not actually turn around and look at yourself. Why haven't those people opened an email in the last month? Maybe your emails suck. Maybe your subject lines have been weak. Maybe your emails have not been getting through for whatever reason. There could be a load of reasons as to why they have not been opening your emails.

I just find it funny that the first step if someone doesn't open your emails is to assume they are just time wasters and to get rid of them.

The problem could be much closer to home.

I have once lost over 2000 subscribers because I change autoresponder services. Majority of my subscribers did not click on the confirmation link and I lost most of them. From that lesson, I learn the importance of using a paid professional autoresponder right from the start so that I will not lose it.

The most I have deleted at once was 23,000 subscribers....

Why? Because they were dead weight...

My list has been growing for the past 10 years and I suspected it might be a bit stale (people change email addresses etc). So I sent out three emails asking them to resubscribe. All those that didn't got deleted - about 20,000.
