listbuilding: testing solo provider vs. oto offer

I just started building a list using solo ads and I'm find it a bit tricky making sense of the results.

Of the 5 solos I purchased, only one had any any buyers. They appeared to be most expensive of the lot.

Still a lot more testing to do, but I'm just trying to make sense the testing process.

To keep it as simple as possible as a starting point, we have 2 variables, traffic from solo ads and oto offer.

In my situation, should I invest more into that solo provider with the evidence of their list having buyers, so I can test different oto's?

Keep running small test solos to find other good potential solo's with buyers?

Needless to say, I didn't break even. And seeing how many here actually do, I'm astounded as to what kind of oto sales must be getting!

Am I missing anything with the strategy above?

    Solo ads is just like PPC marketing. It requires plenty of research. I would actually do both. That solo ad provider has proved that they have a responsive list of buyers, so I would buy a few more solo's from them. I would also invest money into other ad providers to find multiple income streams. It is wise to read up reviews before purchasing any solos.
    You aren't really missing much, just a bit more split testing. Test different offers, different landing/squeeze pages etc. Just see what converts the most then scale up. Another good source of paid traffic is PPC with adwords or Bing.
    Btw.. solo ads are more for building lists. If you are promoting products straight away I would suggest other forms of paid traffic.

      This. It's all about testing the results you get. If one solo ad produced you positive results, simply focus on duplicating the process and scaling it up to make more money and build a bigger list.

    Thanks for the clarification guys.

    I was under the impression, from other threads in the same topic, that if you aren't breaking even from the solo ad itself (not including folow up series) that you're pretty much failing.

    But it sounds like making some of the money back in oto sales is more of a bonus than a target.

    hope you are fine.its upon result if solo ad giving you positive result.so keep investing on solo ad.But i suggest you solo ad which can make your list bigger.

    Too many unknown variables. The most important of those variables is your subject line and your email copy. Mailing (or any type of marketing) results are always going to be STRONGLY influenced by the quality of not just your offer but the way it's presented.
