Subliminal Messages on a Website?

Hell yea.. Frank Kern uses it. LOL.. I watched a video where he uses some custom settings in his Porsche to dish out subliminal messaging that makes people want to buy..

Some might see it as unethical but imagine using it for Amazon products and things people actually want and need. Sales would be through the roof

There have been some marketing pages using many different forms of subliminal messaging, in the past.

The model you propose has a very big downside, and that is the speed of a pageload.

When your pc memory is just about spent, or you are downloading a big file, or the web server is backing up, all these things can slow down the speed of your page, exposing your subliminal message, for all the world to see.

There are other ways, you will just need to think differently.

Manipulating people into purchasing your products...hmmm...alarm bells are ringing. How ethical does it sound to you inside your head?

Since Websites are considered "other advertisement media" I believe you've answered your own question. Why not contact the FTC and ask.

They still use subliminals in Vegas casinos... But if your product/sales page is strong enough, you shouldn't have to.

The best way to get your message across is to do it subliminally. Those flashing banners that scream out to you to click on them don't get good click through rates. When you put an optin form on your blog make it blend in with the design. You'll usually get a better optin rate if you do that.

I found some code for this on a google search a year ago for this. The only thing is that it was in html.

Thanks for a thought-provoking topic! I'm with GlenShep above. Sure, everyone uses some Visual Marketing methods (one of my area of expertise) to help influence visitors.

Sometimes it's unconscious, like the preconscious/subconscious Limbic system effect on a new visitor in the first milliseconds (before their thinking brain engages). Or it's simply directing the eye path with color, or doing color emphasis or even color scheme choice. Sometimes it's conscious, like your choice of layout, photos, boxes and buttons, etc. But it's not usually hidden from a savvy viewer.

Really, your job is to build trust and a long-term business relationship based on that trust. If your visitors ever discovered you were using such tactics, all that built up trust would turn against you in an instant. Some people would probably be pissed off enough to try to put you out of business.

Call me old-fashioned and tell me I'm "leaving money on the table, but I'd never do to my visitors anything I wouldn't want done to me.

It would probably be a good idea to integrate this into every software product out their. I wonder if you could use this to build a zombie army. Like if you flashed words like, you're a zombie, you're really dead but you don't know it, you like eating brains. I picture a bunch of people just standing around waiting to be commanded.

You should be ashamed of yourself for even thinking about using such a sleazy and unethical tactic which preys on the unsuspecting to line your pockets with money. Shame shame. It's just wrong, unethical, immoral, and bad like things which are bad. Naughty, naughty. I can't believe marketers have sunk to such desperate lows. It's despicable.

I still think such a software could be useful. Not to deceive and manipulate people but for personal growth.

It could be used for affirmations for example and sold to the self help niche. To help people reprogram their own minds while they are on the computer.

I think it would sell if marketed well. After all, we all want to improve ourselves without doing nothing.

MindMaster Subliminal Messages and Images

I'm sure I remember reading that this sort of subliminal message doesn't actually work - an urban myth. Yes, it was banned, but that was way back in the days when they didn't know any better.

Interesting discussion. Actually, I need code to add subliminal messages on my web page; but unlike others using this technique secretively, I plan to inform people ahead of time that this is going to happen. There is a growing body of literature in the social sciences that suggest that subliminal priming can have a powerful effect on self-esteem, positivity, affect regulation, and openness to differences.

I am putting together a web site, that augments my psychotherapy practice, where clients can practice building on strategies that they are learning in therapy. I plan to be very transparent about the techniques I will be using - called Secure Base Priming.

Based on attachment theory, SBP helps people with insecure attachment to behave more open and flexible (the hallmark of secure attachment) for a short period of time. I am interested in testing out whether or not continual priming (five days a week over one or two months) will have longer-lasting effects. There is a growing body of data that suggests that mindfulness practice changes the brain. I am hoping for similar effects of SBP.

What I need is this. One of the priming techniques used in social science literature is the flashing of words (20msec) on a computer screen while people are working at a neutral task. The words I would be using for example are love, secure, hug, etc. I need them to rotate as well as be located on various parts of the screen.

The reason I need this on a web site, rather than sell an app is two fold. I can't program an app, but I want it to be cross platform and be even used on a tablet if people want. Is there a way to do this with java script or html? Thanks in advance for your ideas.

I would not put it on my site because i know that it does work! However, I want my customer to make their buying decision totally on their on.

Heck yeah, Subliminal messages are like Hypnosis, you can not make them do what they didn't want too, You are just adding twigs to the fire to get it started is all.

I will keep my mouth shut on the negative posts but yes I would definitely use it and not feel none the worse about it. If they want it your just giving a push.

If it's text directly on the screen, then it is not "subliminal." It may be persuasive and it may trigger emotion or thought, but it is not subliminal. Psychological =/= subliminal.

Which isn't subliminal.

Red makes me think of strawberries.

Yellow makes me think of boardgames and sweaters.

Blue makes me think about how every single social media website seems to want to be some sort of shade of blue, and then I end up clicking over to the warrior forum so that I can imagine purple. (Get it?!)
