List building from your blog, what tools do you use?

Hi

I was just wondering what tools, software, plugins etc other people use for capturing people onto their email list from their blog?

I've just recently started my blog and the traffic is beginning to grow each day, so I realise I need to be building a list.

At the moment I just have a simple Aweber form in my sidebar and a few people are opting in each day but I'm sure that more people could be joining my list if I was using better methods

So I wondered if anyone here can offer any advice on what you're using on your blogs and what you find gets results

Thanks

Craig

In my opinion "Optin Revolution" is the best free popup plugin for WordPress.

But I thing the theme of your blog is also really important. I think of purchasing the Whoo theme now, because it has a web form integrated in its header

You need to direct the visitor to your form.

    1. Your buyers - redirect them or display an option during purchasing your product.
    2. Your visitors - Offer a free report/free something/free newsletter
    3. Your blog RSS feed subscribers.

If you want to get more people subscribing via your
blog opt-in form, then tools, software and plugins
will only get you so far.

A key factor influencing your sign-up rate is the
    strength of your OFFER.

At the moment your offer is relatively weak and
self-focused "Get Updates Straight Into Your Inbox
Daily, On What I Am Doing, How I Am Doing It And
    the Results I get"

Develop a more specific and enticing sign-up offer
and you'll see more people opt-in into your list.

Also, move your opt-in form higher up in the sidebar
of your blog - above the titles of your Recent Posts
    rather than below it.

You want your sign-up box to jump off the page to
increase the chances that visitors see it and move
    closer to signing-up.

    Dedicated to mutual success,

      Hey Shaun

that's great - thank you! Some very valid points, I agree also it's certainly not the most prominent of optin forms right now - I'll work on that

      Thanks again! Appreciate the input

We use WP Super Pop Up plugin set to offer a light box pop up opt in offer for the first 3 visits to the site, and it's increased our opt in rate by 30% since we've been using it. The free version of this works fine for us.

Aweber and OptinPress seems to work just fine to capture emails.

A lead magnet such as a video tutorial or an ebook works better than just subscription to a newsletter.

I lie on marketing forums. Social media is for fun, pics & hook ups.

You might also want to check out a plugin by fellow Warrior WillR called "Contact Ninja"...

    http://wpcontactninja.com

It does some cool stuff with your comments like redirecting to an opt-in form after commenting.

    Cheers,
    Coby

I think that Shaun hit the nail on the head - your call to action is weak.

Personally I'm using curiosity to get people join my list by having a custom graphic in the header. It definitely needs to be above the fold and obvious that you are list building with a stronger call to action.

Your personal branding is pretty decent, and it would also be worth putting a form at the end of each post to test out the conversions.

Lastly don't overdo the adverts as it will take away from the content and turn off readers rather than engage and make them want to hear from you.

Having the Genesis Generate theme helps a lot. The big email capture headline box across the top get's lots of opt ins: Generate Theme by StudioPress

Also having an opt in box below each post, plenty of WP plugins that can do this and of course one on your sidebar.

Pop up boxes work for some people.
