Squidoo Lens Outlines

Hi Everyone!

I hope wherever you are, your weekend is going well. I have a question and would love to have feedback on this. I'm thinking of offering up Squidoo lens outlines and wanted to see if there is a demand for it. Basically, this would be for people who are familiar with Squidoo enough to create lenses but get stuck figuring out what to offer in the lens.

I'd likely do the keyword research and module titles and subtitles...

Does this sound like something that would be interesting to anyone? If yes, why, and if no, why not?

Thanks a million for your thoughts!
Jeannie

    Hi Jeannie,

I'm not following exactly what your idea is..... but...... there is a huge market for lensmasters wanting lenses built for them..... because they don't have the time to build new ones or they just want some fresh ideas from someone else that shares their passion.

There are one or two squidoo forums, outside of HQ, where people swap, buy and sell lenses, and even whole accounts everyday! But obviously transferring lenses has been halted for now

If you are genuine and become a part of the community.... I just bet you will be able to offer your services to a particular forum that I am thinking about;0) Just Google "squidoo forums" and you will find it...it's not HQ.

If you act spammy or try to be an IMer, they will see you coming from a mile away!

Not sure if this is the kind of answer you were after, but these are my thoughts on your idea.

Hope this helps and hope you are having a great weekend!

    Alan

      Hi Alan,

Thanks, that's great advice! I do build lenses a lot for people, but thought I would try my hand at doing outlines too -- basically lenses without the actual copy. This would be for people who don't mind writing, but don't want to do the keyword research and come up with the topics to write about. I'll take a look for the forums - they sound like a great start!

        Hiya Jeannie =)

Just a quick heads up that as of March 1st, Squidoo HQ turned off the abilty to transfer lenses from one account to another for at least 4 weeks (the final outcome is to be determined at a later time pending review and feedback). Here is the info from Squidoo HQ. Not being able to transfer lenses makes it really hard to sell them pre-made. Just thought I'd let you know.

As for the template idea.... I have a lot of members in my training center and one of the things they learn to do is make lenses. While keyword research does seem to be an issue for many brand new, the concept of "outlining" their lenses doesn't hold them back. Now, if those outlines came with 100% totally unique content to go with them.... well, I do believe they'd be interested then.

        Best of luck!

        Jennifer

          Hi Jennifer,

Thanks for sharing that. Since I often make lenses for others, I have been creating lenses directly in my customers accounts for them. If they are nervous about giving away their login info, they can create a new account solely for this.

I am a longtime Squidoo lensmaster and can also build actual lenses with the content. If anyone is interested, please just send me a PM. I can also give you a sample of lenses I have built.

          Thanks!

It's kind of a difficult time for squidoo right now. They've sort of been hammered by the Big G and it seems they are scrambling to save face and get their reputation back with Google.

Not that there's anything wrong with what they're doing, but Google's changes are making them change things around. I'm sure they are doing their best. I'm sure they will come up with good solutions. But right now is a bit of a difficult time for them, I suspect. And anybody looking to make squidoo lenses for profit should probably adopt a wait-and-see approach to see just how financially viable this system will be before spending any money on creating lenses. Not that it isn't worthwhile to invest the time yourself in giving it a try and getting comfortable with the format - that's what I'm doing right now. But I wouldn't spend a nickel until I knew that the wrinkles were ironed out and Google was no longer knicking the website for being generally overly-spammy and of low quality.

And note: That's not a slam against anybody in this thread or people who use squidoo in general.. it just seems to be Google's view of it at the present moment. And I'm sure they're working to change that. Still, it's a time of change and what happens remains to be seen.

Good advice from Benny, Things are certainly changing at Squidoo and luckily because it is a free platform you can go in and experiment and test it out without losing any money just a bit of time.

Good luck on your lens Jeannie. I wish I could offer some tangible advice but unfortunately, every squidoo lens I have put up myself (3) have been removed due to some random reason.

I would also be interested in some squidoo tips and think I will keep an eye on this thread as time goes by..
